Ok I purchased these seeds from Attitude and germinated them around January 2012. Here's the link to the seeds:
https://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/cali-connection-pre-98-bubba-bx2-seeds/prod_235.html

I was trying for a harvest prior to warm up out here and I missed the window. In 2012 we heated up early and stayed hot late. So I did lose an entire crop due to the heat and mis-diagnosing thrips as a nutrient deficiency (which it does cause). However my goal was to keep my genetics alive through the heat of a Mojave summer and I did.

So around 10/1 I flipped my clones to flower I just finished week 11 and am pulling down my plants a plant at a time. I just smoked my first dried Cali Connection Pre98 Bubba Kush BX2. I have had other Pre98 Bubba from an elite clone only strain raised by a friend who supplied me my medical marijuana free. It was his incredible smoke that got me hunting for a BK because it allowed me to cut my Morphine down to 1/3 of what it was!

So here's the images:
RIU_field.jpgRIU_single.jpgRIU_veg.jpg

The first image is a mixed pan of BK's and Nirvana's AI they are in Sunshine Mix #4 Advanced, under a 600 Watt HPS. The second image is a lone BK that will be coming down today. Finally is one of the Bubba Mother's in the veg tent under T5.

So my report on CC's BK backcross. These plants went through hell. If 120 degree temps, 70% humidity, attack of the thrips and me on a learning curve doesn't push them to hermie I don't think they will hermie. I've stopped looking for seeds now (week 12 flower).

The BK does not produce large yields. It has rock hard golf ball size nuggets which is comparable to the BK that was donated to me. So it certainly looked similar. During the grow the plants have the most horrendous stink, sort of a nasty cat piss smell. After just 3 days in a jar it gives way to this wonderful strong lemony scent.

I've been harvesting them one by one hanging them in the veg tent above the lights and then jarring them in 1/2 gallon mason jars. So the first cola was dry enough to go into a jar. After a few days in the jar I decided to try it and smoked some last night.

I took just 2 puffs (I tend to be very lightweight). The taste of the smoke was very good it was a sort of subtle sweet flavor I couldn't quite put a name to. I waited. I was amazed by the crystal clear soaring euphoria from this. This was very similar to IV Fentanyl during an anesthetic induction sequence! Next my body went relatively numb shortly after that I fell asleep. There wasn't any horrible body 'buzzing' and itching I get from the Nirvana AI's (sativa cross). The BK's don't generate any paranoia either (which was one of the big reasons I stopped using any pot back in 1976, all sativa).

So over all this compared favourably to CG's BK even with my amateurish grow methods. I highly recommend this strain for help with pain, decreasing reliance on morphine and insomnia (although the giggles while watching MIB3 kept me awake for a bit). I can't wait to try this after a few months in jars and see what it's like.

As for all the controversy over Cali Connection and Swerve specifically I have no conclusion except to say my experience with CC's back crossed BK was wonderful and I'm getting ready for generation 4 clones. Although this is not a quantity strain it's quality and I plan to keep growing it as it works for my pain.

In my experience with p98, if you veg longer, you can get better yields. I've scrog'd her with good results as well, milder temps and she darkens up, I love the coffee/hashy flavors. Very few indicas match overall potency of it when done well. I had a very nice cut of the herloom bubba before it was called that. Everyone complained about yeild but while on the lower end of average, I never found it too bad, especially for end results.

If you look at my grow journal (sadly neglected now), you'll see I had some Bubba trees LOL. I lost them due to the thrip invasion. That's why I threw my clones in early at between 6 to 12 inches in height. A couple only had been in their pots 2 days prior to being sent to the flower room.

Last year due to mismanagement on my part (couldn't decide what light to buy), I grew trees in an NFT tube meant for this height plant. I'm still smoking on the yield from those back in May! I was amazed at the yield but it was a very tough grow for a newbie.

Although putting these clones in small was not what I'd planned it actually turned out ok and was a MUCH easier grow than my tree grows LOL. So I'm getting ready to take clones off my BK mothers and I'm going to go short again. It is so much easier for someone who isn't very big or strong to manage. I'm short and not very strong so moving huge plants is much tougher for me to do all the upkeep.

Luckily I can't complain about the yield. I smoke very little so this little will last a long time for me.

looks good, +rep
Thank you! HPS coloration hides a world of sins doesn't it LOL! They actually look fairly ratty in person especially with the early thrip damage to the fan leaves :(. Especially when you compare them to what the likes of you pros turn out. The bud pictures from you guys looks like high end porn, ha. But I'm grateful I got a decent harvest and the smoke is nothing short of amazing.

i would train that momma into a bush, bubba kush usually bushes out normally the more top cola's you can get on that girl the better. maybe light spacing is also making them stretch a bit. still look nice green.

greenghost, they were all between 6" and 12" when I flipped them. I fed them fairly heavily with grow food during the first 2 weeks of flip and that's when they stretched. Some tripled their height during stretch but most simply doubled they all reached 18" to 24".

The bubbas I lost were about 5' tall after the stretch but I lost ALL of them to thrips :( I could cry but I vegged them for about 6 or so months prior to flipping. Why did I veg so long? Because I wouldn't flip until I got clones to root and since the temps were well over 100 inside I couldn't get my clones to root. I have to say flipping them all at a foot or under certainly made this grow MUCH easier than my past experience.

yea my clones took like 18 days to root. iv been mainlining mine also so that will account for it being so short.

Do you have any pictures of yours? A grow journal, maybe? I'd love to see other's experience with these genetics. For me they are really outstanding and I'm very pleased. I'm trying to get myself motivated to go take my next pan of clones and to pop some more seeds. I have some Ceres indica's I'm thinking of starting.

Wow, Im growing a pre98 bubba and had issues with thrips as well. what difficency did they cause?
Ive noticed that pre98 bubba seems to grow fastest when the soil is a bit dry. (low irrigation tolerance)
I also tried both 24/0 and 18/6 to see if either made it grow faster than the other and it doesnt seem to make much of a difference.
anyone have any tips for this strain? i luv the quality and hate the yield.

btw i agree that pre98 gives you that feeling as if your opiate receptors are being activated. i personally prefer strains that give that feeling, good OG and Chemdawg strains seem to carry that same effect. very helpful against opiate addiction.

They caused every deficiency. That's why I lost the trees. I kept focusing on chasing the nutritional deficiency and should have realized to suddenly start throwing multiple deficiencies it was a pest. On this harvest I treated with spinosad three times and sprayed ever 3-5 days with insecticidal soap. I spaced soap spraying out to weekly and am going to keep that up.

I don't grow anything at 24/0. Every living thing needs a recovery period so I go from 18/6 to 12/12 and I've had good growth with that. Pre 98 is just one of those quality over quantity strains and I accept what I get. If it helps at all I'm using Dyna Gro Foliage Pro, ProTekt (Silicone) and Botanicare Cal/Mag. After the first 2 weeks of bloom I added in some bloom food with the nutrients I just mentioned. All during the grow I kept the PPM around 700-900 (total).

That is a beautiful plant! Mine were stressed from the thrips so they didn't look that good but they sure are working well. Yes indeed all hail the Bubba. I'm grateful to have found these genetics.

shes mainlined for 16 heads, freshly potted into a 7gal fabric pot of super soil, ill post a pic after i train her to a ring... roll it fat!

ive been trying to train it out to have 4 main branches, it didnt like being topped tho it seems. it took longer than most to recover. my grape ape and others shoot up overnite after doing the same topping. im only doing the veg under come smaller CFL's so thats one reason she is so short. plus i took a couple clones and tried to train it.
DSCF0149.jpg i know that one leaf looks ugly, i honestly coulda yanked it off and it woulda looked better. this bubba seems to like a decent amount of nutes too. you just better make damn sure you keep that soil dry! i mean i love indica bud, but damn this one is so indica its hard to get it big.

any EXPERIENCED pre 98 bubba growers that could give some tips?? like does this plant grow better as single tops instead of trying to top it?

That plant looks so terribly bad I don't even know what to say. You have multitudes of issues not starting or finishing with much too small planter and using CFLs. In all seriousness, if I had a plant looking like that I would scrap it, put time, money and work into my grow room and equipment and start over.
