hey guys so as the title says, Im new to smoking and im new to growing.
Ive been smoking for the last 2 months and im already set to ditch the dealer and start growing my own. So im trying to keep things simple for my first time growing ANYTHING
Im using my spare bedrooms closet so minimise cost, hassle and complexity. Its a basic set up but it should hopefully work out.. fingers crossed!
CFL light dangling over a heater that is trying to control heat and humidity, jiffy pots that are simple to water and being able to transplant with minimal effort.
The CFL im using will be upgraded from this 48w 5000k to an ebay hanger +reflector and 130w 6400k & 2400k lights.
Im currently running on a 16/8 light timing trying to keep it as simple and cheap as possible so the wife is ok with the idea and not jumping on my back because of price
Ive got one of the three mig-29 in soil trying to germinate, and one in a plate with a wet paper towel trying to germinate and one in the bag still as back up in case i fuck up.
One of the SLEESTACK X SKUNK is in soil trying to germinate and one in a wet paper towel
the single DINAFEM DIESEL is in soil trying to germinate
Thanks for taking your time to read, ill update it again as soon as I have the hanger! 

I wish there was an easier way, but from what you ask, I get the impression you're new to this so I’d suggest that to spare yourself a lot of grief you need to RTFB and refer to the following resources:
1. Read: SeeMoreBud’s, “MARIJUANA BUDS FOR LESS- GROW 8 OZ. OF BUDS FOR LESS THAN $100.” It’s a must for dirt gardeners using CFL’s.
2. You’ll also want to read: Mc McCarthy’s, “GROWING MARIJUANAIt’s another must for dirt gardeners.
3. Read: Jorge Cervantes’s, “MARIJUANA HORTICULTURE THE INDOOR/ OUTDOOR MEDICAL GROWER’S BIBLE.” It’s great for dirt and hydro.
4. Read: Ed Rosenthal’s, “MARIJUANA GROWER’S HANDBOOK
5. “THE CANNABIS GROW BIBLE- SECOND EDITION,” written by Greg Green, is a match, if not better than, the ones listed above.
6. You should also subscribe to, “HIGH TIMES magazine. Each issue is full of useful information and excellent photography.
7. You might also want to subscribe to www.gardenandgreenhouse.net. It’s free and they offer a monthly news letter that always has a lot of good information, especially for newbies.
8. A lot of local hydroponics stores offer free weekend gardening classes. Admittedly they offer these classes as a means of boosting sales but they present some good information and they’re frequently taught by experienced gardeners.
All these resources are very well written, well illustrated and packed with information that will answer most of your questions before you know to ask them. Doing your homework before you grow by consulting these resources will save you and your plants a lot of stress. These forums are great but often they’re the blind leading the blind and when you do get it from a knowledgeable source they frequently can’t get the information you need to you in a timely fashion. I sincerely hope this helps. HSA

I'll be getting a hanger system in the next few days and I'll most likely get another one the following week or two. Hopefully that'll be enough for the time being

ok so moving the heater over this after noon i accidentaly knocked over a pot with the latest and most germinated Mig-29 autoflowering seed.
This had a tail that was starting to uncurl out and it was spilled on the ground. i carefully picked it up and placed it back in soil and watered it and im hoping that i didnt just shock it so bad that it dies.
And for some odd reason i cant press enter when typing to go onto another line so im sorry if it seems cluttered. I didnt mean for it to be all looped together

What you have is excellent for the next couple weeks. just hang the light horizontally, length-wise along the plant, youll get more lumens hitting the good stuffFor right now, get a good sized box, and line the inside with an emergency blanket or mylar if you can get some. If you're gonna take a trip to the store you might as well get some materials to build yourself a little like 2x3 box, or whatever dimension you please. then get a decent sized fan and cut a hole in the box, get 2 if you can, put one fan on the top sucking air out and one on the bottom blowing air in. also get rid of the heater, its the wrong tool for the job honestly, youll be better off with a box and fans.

That does sound like a good idea, I'll look into building one once the light comes in. How big should it be for two medium sized plants?

actually i don't think you even need to build a seperate box, i guess the wardrobe is pretty awesome already. check out a cool book - buds for less. the dude grows his plants in the middle of a room. anyway, you can get some kind of a fan which circulates air around the grow area and blows on your plants, so they don't get wobbly and stuff. my first grow was very ghetto - just a couple of desk lamps with no air circulation what so ever, i LSTd it so i didn't have to worry about the stems getting really thin (i just didn't worry about it, because i didn't think it would be a problem at that time), anyway, i got a decent yield out of it. you can just get a couple of y-splitters, grab a couple of bulbs and you'll be good to go.

ok the pot that i tipped all over the floor is making a speedy recovery and looks like she is going to pull through!
I cant say the same for the other beans tho, i think my germ rate is 1 out of 5 atm. Lucky ive got that spare Mig-29 in a bag, ive learnt allot in just these few days. Next grow will be even better :)

yea, after thinking about it today at work ive decided im just going to stick with this set up + my ebay light reflector that is coming in soon and just ride this grow out.
Next grow will be different, but until then i will take careful note of things ive done right and wrong through this grow and use it towards my next grow
So im sorry if i spam this thread and keep bumping, im using it as my grow log and ill be keeping pictures here and not on my phone for safety reasons/paranoia =P

Just a new update, ive got my ebay hanger and lights now and also temp gauge :) so hopefully good times ahead now
This is my temp gauge hanging down to about level with the plants, when the door is closed its fairly close so i should get a decent indication of temp and humidity around the pots
And here is the distance im running at the moment from the light to the seedling :) should thats about the right distance for a 130w 6400k CFL yea?
And here is the closet set up now with the ebay light and plants :). im not using the heater any more because the temp gauge is reading 26 and 42 humidity. so ill be using the heater for abit as just a dodgey shelf :)
And my cheap little ebay digital gauge
And a few hours after my last photo she sprouted even more, looks like i could just pull up a chair and watch her grow. Going quicker then i thought!

I've got a mig in its last few weeks of flower. Its a nice bushy plant you can easily see the sativa genes. Once it starts to flower (itll take off around 3 weeks) get as much light around the four branches that start coming up from the second node also tuck the fan leaves it likes to hold over those bud sites. Getting light to those early makes a huge difference later.

This is an old picture but it still demonstrates my point. Red circles had leaves tucked to aux buds had good light and were given a cfl above them for 2-3 days each then I moved the light to the next one. The blue circle shows the site that I did not tuck nor gave extra light to. You can see the difference there but its far more dramatic now.
