BHO texture question

Hey there RIU,

Couldn't exactly find any topics on this specifically so I thought I'd start my own topic because I'm extremely curious as to what happened. I did my first BHO run today, I did a google search for RIU topics and found Jdro's topic https://www.rollitup.org/concentrates-extracts/489043-jdros-less-than-30-guide.html which was extremely helpful so thanks Jdro!

Anyway, I did exactly what Jdro said to do, run the buds first because you get the best run that way so that's exactly what I did. I did this two different times, same Blue Dream buds from the same Blue Dream plant.

The first pure Blue Dream BHO run came out like this.

Now the second time I did a BHO run with pure Blue Dream buds I got this.

The only thing different that happened is when I was transferring my boiling water into the pan some of it accidentally came into contact with the butane mixture in my pyrex dish, did the boiling water coming into contact with the BHO do this? This is the only thing different that happened and I'm curious as to the chemistry of why there's such a texture difference, did the water really do that or is there some other explanation?

And then, just like Jdro said, I ground up the buds that I used in my first runs and did a second run and this is what happened.

This stuff is like amberglass, it's completely solid and not gooey and I'm wondering why this particular texture came out.

Before I even started posting on RIU all I would do is just read everything on here and that's the reason why I was able to have such a good first run (thanks again Jdro!), but out of everything that I've learned on here I still haven't found any conclusive information as to what makes the textures of oil turn into different textures. The first two runs were with the same material, yet the only difference was the accidental boiling water in the 2nd batch. I'm really hoping that someone can explain this to me because the next time I do a run I want to be able to determine how to make it a particular texture. The amberglassy stuff is perfect for putting on top of some meds but the first two runs I have are perfect for putting on a cigarette (don't have a dabber :()

Any responses concerning this would be greatly appreciated because I'm completely curious and this is usually the place I come for my information, however I can't seem to find anything about it. Can anyone shed any light on the subject?

Hash oil and water don't mix. Literally.

You have an emulsion. Maybe spread thin and heat in the oven.

For the batch that got wet, put some parchment paper in a baby food jar, place your batch in the jar and heat slowly with a candle warmer or electric skillet, just warm enough that it liquifies. Agitate gently and pop any bubbles that form and your oil will be clear and consistent once cooled

There is still tons of bubbles in that stuff (butane residue), super unhealthy for you to smoke/ingest, you need to get a vacuum purger bro.

Butane is non-toxic just fyi

It's in just about every lighter.

But yes, you don't want it to pop while dabbing, so heat/stir it if you don't have a vac chamber.
