GOP Rep: I ‘Absolutely’ Voted To Cut Funding For Embassy Security

In the 2011 continuing resolution, Congress, at the insistence of the House of Representatives, slashed the president’s request for embassy security and construction and forced another cut in fiscal year 2012. Altogether Congress has eliminated $296 million from embassy security and construction in the last two years with additional cuts in other State Department security accounts.

For fiscal 2013, the GOP-controlled House proposed spending $1.934 billion for theState Department’s Worldwide Security Protection program — well below the $2.15 billion requested by the Obama administration. House Republicans cut the administration’s request for embassy security funding by $128 million in fiscal 2011 and $331 million in fiscal 2012. (Negotiations with the Democrat-controlled Senate restored about $88 million of the administration’s request.) Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that Republicans’ proposed cuts to her department would be “detrimental to America’s national security” — a charge Republicans rejected.
Ryan, Issa and other House Republicans voted for an amendment in 2009 to cut $1.2 billion from State operations, including funds for 300 more diplomatic security positions. Under Ryan’s budget, non-defense discretionary spending, which includes State Department funding, would be slashed nearly 20 percent in 2014, which would translate to more than $400 million in additional cuts to embassy security.

I sense a disturbance in the force. Google searches just went through the roof looking for evidence to refute your post. :p

Should we expect the president to take responsibility for anything or is he busy hiding behind excuses, Hillary Clinton, the secret service and any piece of furniture in the white house....

Why the hell do we even have an embassy in Libya at all? Ecspecially in Binghazi. The city where Al-Quida raised their flag the same day Gaddafi was ousted. The same day Obama declared victory. The death of a dictator, and the birth of radical Islam violence that was once supressed by the Gaddafi regime. Who the hell said it was a good idea to build a embassy in a "hot zone?" If I were the GOP, I'd cut spending on that stupid idea too. The world is burning while Obama's learning.

absolutely true. we all know marines and special forces work for free.
Overall funding for those programs has increased sharply over the past decade. Indeed, Worldwide Security Protection is more than double what it was a decade ago. … Moreover, the State Department has considerable latitude in allocating security funds based on current events and intelligence on possible threats. Why that latitude was not applied in Libya deserves further scrutiny.

Do your homework, Captain Fail.

Our government today depends mightily on the hosting country to help patrol/secure the perimeter of our embassy's. When that fails, no embassy is in the world is safe.

By the way, Hillery took the blame so Obama wouldn't have to.

Thats true. The intelligence was there, the funding was possable, The ambassador made security requests, and the requests were denied. Its really not that complicated to figure out Obama's State Department is at fault here.

The Libyan hit was an inside job. Thats how Al-Quida knew where the ambassador's safe house was.

So you think the POTUS sits around making decisions about security at a single location? Or Hillary for that matter?

As we supply most extra security to foreign embassies located in the US.
