best lights for vegetative stage?

what are the best lights for vegetative stage? cant seem to find the answer anywhere

5000K to 5600K is the ideal temperature for veg cycle. I go with 5600K myself. As far as bulbs, HPS is hard to beat, but T5 florescence and CFLs can do pretty good too.

im sorry, but i have to disagree with u guys. MH is a much better vegg light than HPS. HPS is the ideal flowering light cuz of its red/orange spectrum. the nice blue/whit spectrum the MH provides is what ur plants want durring veggative growth. ive vegged plants under all forms of lighting.. HPS, floros, cfls and MH. i can personally tell u that if u want to produce the BEST veg growth...use a MH.

HPS is useful in veg only before the transfer from veg to flower and this only allows the plant to adjust to the spectrum change quicker resulting in more growth but is not necessary.

Go with Metal Halide; floros and CFLS are only useful for clones and seedlings

I agree MH for flower because it has more of the red and orange spectrums of light, but I still think HPS at 5000k to 5600k for veg.

u not seen the muytispectrum 250-300 watt cfls buddy? do a full grow with them puppies,do ur research dude that was bad info

The ganja guru Ed Rosenthol says HPS all the way through, veg to harvest. Pretty sure he knows more than almost anyone about growing.

i used a white spectrum 125w cfl for veg some autos and then switched onto red 250w cfl when first pistils showed up then they went crazy. lookin to get another 250w in there for next time too. might go for 125w T5's vertical on either side for side branches n jus leave the 250 on top.

but if u dont do cfl's, MH is best for veg and HPS best for flower, altho if u got a nice set up it shouldnt really matter if u do the whole grow on a HPS.....but its like £20 for a MH bulb so u may as well get one lol i heard dual spectrum bulbs are not good coz they take away the benefit of each individual spectrum :/ rather than benefiting. anyone got evidence of that ?

Most HPS bulbs for the horticultural scene these days have an enhanced spectrum and do a great job from start to finish. And some of the cheaper MH bulbs will actually stretch a plant more than a quality HPS bulb.....

and ive also been seeing alot of crazy stuff on here about spectrums and loads of numbers....i dnt have a clue what that means. i just thought red = flower and blue = veg (mimics the wavelengths of natural sun at those times of the season) but ive seen people saying they got MH bulbs with different spectrums and HPS with different spectrums.
crazy shit. ill get round to reading up on that one day lol

in no way shape or form do i want to argue with the Ed Rosenthol but i will say that i proudly disagree this time. i wouldnt argue the fact if i havnt seen and done it myself with my own 2 hands and eyes . i guess it all comes down to how u like ur plants to be/look. personaly i like to vegg with floros for the first 4weeks cuz i like to put my lights almost directly on top of my ladies to get the nice tight nodes that are 1/4-1/2 inc apart. to each his own..but im sticking to my opinion the MH is the best vegg light.

Using Metal Halide (MH) lamps in any stage of growing is a waste of time and money. More total light useable by the plant is produced by High Pressure Sodium (HPS) than MH lamps, so plants grow faster using HPS lamps alone.
When HPS and MH laps are lined up in rows in a grow room, you can see the "wave effect." The plants under the MH lamps do not grow or weigh as much as the plants under the HPS lamp.
No formal studies have been performed to see if different visible light spectrums affect taste or potency, but anecdotal evidence suggests that it doesn't.
The only reason to use an MH lamp rather than a HPS is to avoid the suspicion that a weird-colored light may arouse.

Ok there is alot of confusion about the kelvin scale this a wave length scale not a temp. . The numbers represent the reddishness or blushness of the light being emitted.

Here's the thing: 4 weeks is enough time to veg and flower a full-size (3-4oz dry weight) LST'd plant; ask me how I know. Clearly, you're vegging much longer. As such, you're essentially giving away a harvest or two every year by not taking advantage of the time. Same with a MH - very slow veg. While you may like how the plants look, the guy next door is pulling a hell of a lot more bud in an identical environment, but with a more effective light. Good luck.
