Barnes and Noble, buy SeeMoreBuds' '8oz for less than $100' book. I hope you're not doing this in your parents house...

1. Look into using Compact fluorescent lights, i used led cause its cheap, but cfl's are cheaper.

2. basic potting soil, miraclegrow, lots of people here use scotts or, i think its called fox farms or something.

3. You wont need nutrients till they get bigger and they are not very expensive. I bet you could do it for under 100 dollars no problem. possibly under 65

Then I'd say for several weeks you would get away with soil, lights, seeds, (obviously:mrgreen:) and water. Smell shouldn't be a problem for a while yet.

All the cfl's you can use and if your grow area isn't flat white you'll need some mylar to cover the walls. Is heat going to be an issue when you switch to flowering?

With the CFLs temp shouldn't be too much of a problem, its only when you switch bulbs for flowering that things really heat up. As things progress you'll be able to tell what you need. Oh yeah add a thermometer to your list. You'll want to monitor your temp.

Remember to get the CFL's in the blue package that say "Daylight" on them for vegging, make sure the CFL is at least a 100w equivalent which would come out to a 23w CFL bulb, it'll say both wattages. On the side of the bottom "ballast" of the bulb, you should see a number with a K at the end, you're looking for somewhere between 5500k and 6500k for vegging, and on the box itself you should have a box that'll cite the lumen output, you're looking for 1300-1600lumens, the more lumens the better! Here was my simple shopping list for home depot:

- MG Potting Soil (not really the best but for your first, go for it)
- MG/Shulz/or Scotts Perlite (need this!)
- 3 Gallon pot (if you're just growing one, a 3 gal pot will let your plant grow nice and fat, base your pot size on your vertical height limit, not 2 feet I hope)
- 6 23-26w DAYLIGHT CFL's in the blue box.
- Watering can
- 4 Light hanging bathroom wall fixture (for the lights, these are cheap actually, Hampton Bay)
- 2 Y-Splitters for the lights
- Thermometer (must have)
- PH tester (must have)
- PPM tester (optional)

That's all I think... should cost ya a total of around $100-115 bucks.

2x2. Great for a single plant.

I'd suggest planting a bunch of seeds (say 5+?) and let them veg *well* check the prefloweres and find the females. Then take clones of the best females of the bunch, once the clones root, toss the momma into flowering (12/12) and keep the rooted clones in veg (18/6 or 24/0)
Let the momma flower as the clones grow.

Harvest momma when due. Put in a couple of clones and repeat (taking cuttings of the clones once big enough)

Lighting? More the better. I'm not getting into the CFL vs HPS vs MH debate. All seem to work when you work with in what they can do.
