Ok so i have done much research on these forums and online and i have read many different views on the topic of marijuana growing with aluminum foil as reflectors, either on the walls or made into a homemade reflector . now all the research ive done has just made me have to do more research, so im asking everybody here whats your views on it? does anybody use it and get decent herb or should i really tare all the foil off the walls of my box? hmmmm

Waste of time and money if you ask me, and can be harmful if using HID lighting. You would be better off using mylar emergency blankets. You can get them very cheaply at any sporting goods store. Or, you could use flat white paint, this would reflect more light and more evenly than tin foil.

youd be better off using flat white. mylar only reflects 3% more light, and costs more than a can of paint. aluminum foil will burn your plants, the shiny side will burn it the worse if im not mistaken.

...............................................tin foil bends and crinkles, sends light off at wrong angles and creates heatspots all over. i agree with the other growers - mylar 95% white paint 85% :)

Aluminum foil is real good for reflecting heat. Typically we are trying to get rid of heat is you use HPS or MH.

i bought a roll of mylar foil? it costed me maybe 30dollars and its a huge roll i could probably use it to cover 2 sides of my rooms wall, i tried using that in my fiirst closet grow with cfl's lol did not work so well, im not dissing cfl's but if i was to buy a tent and actual mh/hps lights from the beggining it would of been a whole lot easier. deffinetly no on the tin foil/aluminum foil. like the peeps above me mylar or white pain and they are more than right about the creases and folds that could bounce of the light wrong and hot spots. Goodluck

what if im using cfls? they do not put off enough heat to burn the leaves even if they are 2 inches from my plants like i have then now so how could they burn my plants? i could see how using a hps or sumthing stronger that puts off alot of heat could reflect and burn, but cfls, really? i would think it would be just perfect heat for it

Except that it really doesn't reflect light that well, but you seem head bent to do it anyway, so just do it anyway.

im going with pj just do it if you believe it will work out, go ahead and try it. the best way to learn is failure. 5 years and im still learning shit.

Aluminum foil is better than nothing.
exactly what i thought. and im not head bent on using it. people use it alot, all i want to know is if its truely BAD like some people say. i know it might not be as reflective as mylar or white paint but it seems to help. when i didnt have it up my box was cold even with the lights close now that its up, seems to bring heat up perfect. and im using 3 23w cfls in a 3'H 1.5'W 2'D box.i just dont want to have to tear everything out of my box and have to paint it and leave my plants out for awhile or anything like that. if i dont have to im not going to but if it really is BAD like some say i will go to the extreme

id say use white paint and a strip of aluminum foil on the roof of your grow room, could up the temp if it really is that low. its summer now though, plants grow fine in temps as low as 50-60 but will be trying to defend itself, they will grow but not as fast as they would around 70, but there will be growth. i dont recommend it with an hid though.

My application of tin foil serves its purpose adequately. If it didn't I would have found an alternative material, more than likely some form of cloth.
