Not too bad here in CA.. I mean, other than not being allowed to own automatics and rocket launchers, you can get anything you want in semi-auto version.

&& I would rather have a gun and not need it than not have one when I need it.. uhh like a condom.

Anyone against Firearms need to pry their arms off that tree.
maybe they can hug the guy with the gun and he will spare them
naw not likely

Disagree ... I can't even buy a bloody bolt-action rifle ... they've called it an assault weapon. The gun in question is a Steyr SSG-08. Disallowed! And just try buying a Barrett. The AR I don't really have is also not on the OK list. cn

A gun is like a motorcycle helmet. You hope you never ever need it. But when you do, you really really do. Whan i had bikes, i wore the helmet even when shifting the damned pig around the driveway ... and i wore it regardless of local helmet laws. The "full-face helmet on a Harley" thing? I did that before it was cooool! ~cackling, running in circles~ cn

Once in New Orleans I met some Brits on vacation. We started talking and what they said amazed me. They said, that they had heard Americans were rude and uncivilized. Then they found out that we are nice, decent, and friendly. Said they had people invited them to their homes for dinner.

Heck, we invited them to come back and stay with us in northern Michigan and we'd show them some real beauty.

What you hear about the States is probably just like I hear about the UK. Minus the guns.

i think some people need to spend less time watching the news and more time out in the world. they will learn it's really not such a scary place after all.

i heard that
i put mine on before i even put key in bike and always strap it
and full face is only way to go them scooter half helmets dont do shit unless u land ontop of head
u go down it will skin your face off all because u wanted to look cool

for example once a car cut me off bike hit front fender and landed on hood after i sailed over hood like superman flying only to slide 20-30 feet on front of helmet staring at pavement flashing by inches from face
if i chose to be cool and wear half helmet i wouldnt have a face

maybe it isnt where u live but some of us dont live in fairytale land
and btw i dont watch news not even on internet as matter of fact i dont even watch tv
i do read my local small town paper and i know what the real world is like lived all over usa, europe and south and central america

but the area im at is the south and it is over run with meth heads that will and do kill
sir if u chose not to arm and be prepared to defend self whether it be a knife, mace, or a gun is your right as it is our right according to the constitution to bear arms and defend ourselfs

James87, i am curious as to why you say Canadian gun laws are "fairly relaxed". In CA they are arbitrarily, meddlesomely, bossily strict, but I think they're more relaxed than in Canada. cn
We don't have a limit on the number of rounds in a magazine for rimfire, so 25's and 50's are common in, for example, Ruger 10/22's. Rifles, 5 or 10 rounds max, depending.. The rules can be confusing. Pistols 10 rounds max.. So its better to have larger caliber. I mean, for example, a Glock can have well-over 10 rounds in 9mm, or extended mags. So the limit is 10, you may as well have .44 or .45 ACP or even .454 Casull.. The gangbangers *love* 9mm for some reason, but they suffer from overpenetration and don't deliver much energy, which is why you hear about some rapper getting shot a bunch of times and still walking. But with a .45 center-mass hit, the dude isn't gonna get up ever again. Also any pistols with a barrel length shorter than "about 4 inches" (snub-nose revolvers, for example) are all prohibited.

There are three classifications:

1) Unrestricted: Rifles, shotguns, generally about 27" in length or more, 18.5" barrel.. Center-fire single-shot like break-open shotguns can have shorter barrels. Semi-auto.
2) Restricted: Most pistols (barrels longer than 4"), almost all 5.56mm NATO type rifles, semi-automatic.
3) Prohibited: Everything else, including rocket launchers, mortars, suppressors (in the movies, known as silencers), full-auto, selective fire, etc.

You only need the license. Get a prohibited license, and you can own everything. The big difference between Canada gun laws and American is the laws concerning concealed carry. In the US, there is a "shall carry" and Canada is a "may carry". 99% of Canadians will never get a concealed carry license, OR even a prohibited one.

There is also an issue about transporting restricted arms in Canada. You need a piece of paper called "Authorization To Transport" which entitles you to put a pistol in a lockbox, in the trunk (boot) of your car, from your house to the shooting range. No stopping!! No stops for gas, for food, detours, nothing. And then drive back.

Right now there are some cases that will help define those gun laws, as our law is based on precedence. A guy was defending his home from people throwing burning molotov cocktails at his house, and he unlocked his pistol and loaded it, went outside and fired 3 warning shots and they ran away. The guy is/was a firearms instructor, but they still tried to charge him with "unsafe this&that x 40" charges.

Anybody with a gun license cannot have a criminal record.. And most people aren't aware that if you have a restricted or prohibited license, police don't need a warrant to search your house.

you seem very paranoid ww. at some point in your life something must have really trumatized you because that mentality doesn't seem normal or healthy, even for somebody from detroit. no offence intended.
Your mentality seems much more unhealthy, the same line of thought as *not* looking both ways before crossing the street. I mean, if you look both ways, you must be ASSUMING you're gonna get hit by a truck, right?

thats not the same thing at all. if i didn't look before crossing the street i would have been hit by many cars by now. on the other hand i don't own a gun and have never needed one.
