Grow Journal II – Michigan Medical Marihauna Card – Year 2 Crop 2

Crop 1 consisted of 10 OG Kush and 2 Apollo 13 plants. This is Crop 2. Crop 2 consists of 10 Apollo 13 and 2 OG Kush. This time, instead of flowering 2 mothers on one side and 10 clones on the other, I will be flowering 6 plants on each side of the 4'x8' tent. I will be using ScroG . All the plants are going to be as uniform as possible, vegging for 2 moths, so the size will be between the Mothers and the Clones on Crop 1.

First, some one pointed out to me that this journal feels like daja vu. Well, if you read 2nd Med Card Grow Journal 1, it was about crop 1. While that was happening, crop 2 was emerging and I still kept tabs on the activities of crop 2 for a few posts then stopped. So if you read that, some of this is rehash. For those that didn't, I got a new light for the clones, but I had to cover the plugs with foil because the light leaked through them quite easily. There's a pic below that shows the light and the foil job. Some clones were lost because the foil cut them. There are still a lot of Apollo 13 clones left, which is my goal, to get a run of mostly Apollo 13 for the second crop. Crop one will consist of 10 OG Kush and 2 Apollo 13s.

Total of 30 out of 50 clones were planted from run number 2 on the DIY Cloner. Most of the dead ones died when I was installing the foil. The other casualties were just because I didn't like the amount of root development, and simply tossed em. Unless I can find a way to get rid of the extras, they might not even make it to buckets. I learned something I only suspected last run: Cutting the “bark” off the tip of the stem didn't do anything to help roots grow, in fact, it was the main cause of the slime that developed and probably prevented roots from growing or developing to their fullest extent. So, lesson learned. All the root hairs ALWAYS started on the “bark” and never grew from the area where I shaved the tip.

Notice that no roots grew where I shaved the stems.

The Dirty 30. I maintain that I took more Apollo 13 than OG Kush this time, because the first grow was 10/2 OG Kush to Apollo 13.

In the back there are the 30 new plants started on 11/2. They were veggin' at a remote locale so they didn't get the bend-training that their big sisters got, so I topped them. After new growth is long enough, I will start to bend train.

Overall, the plants were growing beautifully with a couple slow starters, mostly due to the Aco dirt that three or four of them ended up in. I also gave all these babies some Sensizym.

123241.jpg
Most of them only needed one bend after being topped.

Here is the Dirty 30. These are some Extremely healthy clones.

I “got rid” of the extra clones and the 2 Apollo 13 extra plants. The Veg room is pretty manageable. I kept 10 Apollo 13's and 2 OG Kush for Crop 2. I trimmed off any leaves on Crop 2 that looked like they had any sign of anything wrong with them.

Went to the grow store and they were out of agro. So I got 3 bags of Ocean Forrest. Why not? Its only 12 plants, might as well go all out, right? Its only 12 bucks a bag around here anyway. Below are the pics of the whole process.

They are begging to get out of these dixie cups.

Marking the buckets, the only keeping-track I ever reall do.

231915.jpg
All of these have been in cups for 4 weeks, they have nice root plugs.

231912.jpg
Yummy.

231859.jpg
Humic acid, Cal Mg+, and Super B+ is all I gave them.

231856.jpg
Each 3 gal pot got about 2 quarts of this muddy mix.

231903.jpg
They look like they fit better already.

Watered with Super B+. Bend-trained them again to adjust for growth. Sprayed with End All to kill bugs for 3 days in a row. Seen a gnat or two and a stink bug!?@?@ Talk about a shocker! I'm looking for little dots all the time, then here I see this Godzilla looking motherf@cker. Yeah, it was a surprise!

231940.jpg
If you use Ocean Forest, You might have met your new pets. This stuff is good at keep their numbers at bay. Don't expect it to do the same for aphids, but while vegging, this is the stuff.

Two days after the bending. Crop 2 is really taking off and will be more than ready to bud in a couple weeks (when Crop 1 is done).

Okay, these plants are ready to burst out of the steel restraints I used to tie them down. They are the picture of perfect health. So I watered each plant, took out the restraints, fluffed up the top of the soil, and basically just admired them. Not a single leaf anywhere with any sign of anything but emerald green. New growth looking fantastic. These babies are ready to go. I seen some root fingers poking through the drain holes, and I'm still debating on repottnig them to the not-so-much-bigger 5 gallon bucket. There is only a mere two weeks more for these babies to veg. I will be able to get more dirt and buckets if I decide to when the time comes.

Oh, hey, what's up Journal? Long time no see... well, I have been buisy. Crop 1 went pretty well overall. The final count was 5.5 oz of Apollo 13 (2 plants) 14.5 oz of OG Kush(10 plants). The OG Kush seemed all along to have bad genetics. I mean, the plant performed well and yielded as expeced, but the flavor and smell were off. It was OG Kush, it just didn't have the over the top through the bag stank I'm used to. I blame it on the genetics I was given. It was a clone. What can you expect? When something falls short of your expectations, the dissapointment may distract you from noticing that something else far exceeded your expectations. That would be the Appolo 13. A strain that I never heard of before, the basis for Subcool's 3 best hybrids, and the subject of a recent strain review written by none other than Subcool, Apollo 13 is that shit that you would definately NOT forget. I'm very happy that crop 2 is going to consist of 10 of these babies. They were quite large when I strted flowering.

Since I wasn't around to make updates, let me tell you a little story about the current crop...These plants (10 Apollo 13 and 2 OG Kush) vegged for 3 weeks in dixie, 5 weeks in 2 gal and 1 week in 4 gallon pots. So, yes, I DID transplant them. It is necesarry to overshoot it by a gallon with plants that have vegged this long. When I triggered them, the Apollos were closer to 4 feet tall than 3. The OG's were 3'. I laid all the branches down and put 8' x 4' of trellis on top of them. During week 1, at night, the crossmember supporting the light (crossmember came with the tent) failed and the light crashed into the center of the right hand side of the tent, breaking off 3 main branches and several smaller branching systems. It is almost 2 weeks later, and the difference in the canopies is very noticeable. Still just using 2 600w HPS's – still moving them by hand. This time, I decided to let loose about 50-100 ladybugs. I like it, it adds a whole new and fun dimension to the growroom. The last run, New leaves with damage from mealy worms or thripes was evident, persistant, and annoying. It is quite possible that the yield was slightly effected by these parasites. I am here all the time, and I take smoke breaks in the grow room, so I study the plants very closely all throughout their cycles. This time, with ladybugs crawling and zooming about, I see nothing but dark emerald leaves that are full bodied and perky without any signs of bug bites or bug shits. So the pic of the closet bursting above was nearly a month ago, not a great representation of the crop... Now I have a new digicam I picked up on sale so expect more and better quality pics and even vids from me. The ones below, week 2 of flowering, Apollo 13 (mostly):

The ever important bends made when colas shoot through the canopy. In your ScroG, you will want to be adament about keeping up with this, especially weeks 2, 3 and 4. If you don't do this, you might as well have just grew a SoG without the net so you can rotate the plant buckets.

Fed em Biothrive Bloom, BioBud, and CalMg+. Against the wishes of the GO staff I did pH check the mix. Without adding anything, it stabalized around 7.1, so I put just a little Natural Down in there. Sorry, last crop I didn't pH when I was using a mix that consisted of all GO stuff, and I didn't notice any problems. As far as the plants, they are sucking it in quicker, which I can easily tell now that I put individual trays under the buckets. I'm happy with everything overall, in fact, any better and I would need more space for these 12 Beasts. 4' x 8' of solid 16" thick plant mass, mostly bud already, and all I have is 2 600w lights. So the lighting is the only dissapointment, but when isn't that true? I can't upgrade yet, I'm about to upgrade the electricity in the room first. So I am still moving the lights every 3 hours to a different corner. This is already not enough, as there are major dark spots that stay dark for periods of up to 6 hours. One more 600 will do. Looking under the hood of this Scrog, I would LOVE to get a couple of those LED panels and just flop em on top of the buckets pointing up.

That was cool! So here is Feed day... currently, this is how I am working it...

234338.jpg1. Fill 30 gal can up and bubble it with air stone for 24 hours.
2. Mix it with these nutes. Use whatever nutes you use. Right now, I am using these ones and they are kick ass. That's coming from a seasoned veteran.
3. Since I am using soil that already contained some food and some amendments, I generally only use the "light" amount on the directions.
4. Check for deficiencies in your leaves often. When you find something, it is likely that soon, all of the plants of the same strain will have the same deficiency. Know your levels. Growing uniform crops is easier to keep it just right.
5. Water when the dish beneath the buckets are dry for 24 hours. If you wait till they are light, some plants may get stressed. Be careful
6. Check the EC. You wanna probably keep it below 1000ppm Total Dissolved Solids lol (as my meter only goes to 999). Check your method of growing, look into it if this is something you don't do. The problem that may end up happening is lock up. If you get lock up during flowering, I hate it for you. It is really difficult to correct lock up in flowering, only expert growers pull it off in a timely manor. 234225.jpg
234217.jpgpH'ing is cool, GO tells me not to worry about it. True enough, it almost ALWAYS brings my high water (8 – 8.5) down to 7.1.

so

7. Since GO tells me not to worry about it, I'll run it down to 6.6... where the roots will like it.
8. Add about 2 Liters first. Pour evenly around the stalk and edges so that the liquid makes its way down all sides of the bucket.
9. Come back through a few minutes later and add another liter. By now, it should start running out of the drain holes at the bottom. Make sure it fills the tray up about a half inch or more by adding a half liter at a time.
234238.jpg
234206.jpg10. Wait! Don't go leave! You aint done yet! Haha. Loosen up that top layer of dirt. Get it out of the rim. Pile some loose dirt over any exposed roots.
11. While you're under the Screen of Green, look for anything that is dead or looks like there is mold growing on it. Pick up the floor under the plants, remove any dead leaves that are chillin out down there. Okay, you're done, go smoke a fatty son!
