Transplanting from soil to dwc??

I actually tested out my first hydro system build with a tomato plant in soil, gently rinsed the soil from the roots and transplanted in hydro but i don't recommend it with something like weed. just grow out the plants in soil and take cuts when they're big enough, keep the soil plant in low light and low feeding and you'll have cuts for as long as you can keep the mother.

A little late I've already transplanted a few. So we shall see how they do. As for the others I'll probably take a clone or two off each and bloom them. Just to determine sex of the clones.

oh, I thought you were dealing with fem clones for sure. At the least you'll have put the ones in soil in a little shock and maybe some b vitamin would be a good idea but then you probably already know that.

Nah I'm dealing with a bunch of seeds lol. What do you mean I'll put the ones in dirt into a lil shock? And I'm still new at this so don't assume I know everything haha. I posted this thread just to see if there's any kind of problems that come along with transplanting them that i should be aware of.

the soil to hydro transfer is touchy... i suppose its the buffered soild vs the almost non buffered dwc that causes stress (on the roots) which in turn causes hermies, or just stressed plants... from my experience (about 4 tries) i got about 50/50 survival... ro water used nothing else... as thats how i take care of my clones, and used same principle for the conversion...

this is what i did...

rinsed the roots off as best as possible trying to not damage the finer roots... i filled a pot with ph ro water and supported the roots under the water with my hands and slowly moved it through the water trying to not damage the roots... once i got it pretty clean i transferred into another pot of ro water to just clean the roots off and get a better look at them, and off to the veg tank they went... 2 died 2 survived... all from seed.

when making clones etc... i use no rooting hormones or gels or any gimmickry... just fresh CLEAN water... using this route i get 95 percent survival with clones.

it can be done just be prepared to have a few losses...

I've done it. Didn't have any problems. Seemed to me I could get more dirt rinsed off the clones that were in rock wool then I could seedlings. Need to be carefull of the tap root with the seedlings. You don't have to get all the dirt off. Depending on the size of your net pot you could almost put a whole solo cup dirt ball in a 6" pot with no rinse at all or not to much rinsed off. Eventually with the water and bubbles the lose stuff will finally quite ending up in your rez. 3 for 3 now

Thanks! They are looking good so far. I have an old hair washing sink in my room so I used that little sprayer to get most of the dirt out of the roots.

Funny you say no Gimmick about clonning solutions. I was in a small hydro store the other day and the person at the counter was showing me this new organic cloneing solution and he was stoked that they had it and was impressed that it was organic. I'm thinking to myself WTF who cares about if a cloneing soloution is organic ! LOL ! I use a solution. The Cheap root tone from ace Hardware that smells like it's super toxic. lol I used to root in plain water but always used a solution.

Ahh the ole snake oil. lol Vitamin B 1 at it's finest. I have a bottle, only used it a couple of times though when all else failed to fix something. Did it work ? Ahh hell, I don't know, I don't think so but it felt good. lol I've read for hours and pages and pages about the stuff on here.
