How long do shrooms take to grow?

Was thinking about doing a shroom grow, I could get everything I need here within a week. Problem is I'm going on vacation on Feb 28 and I'd like to take them with me. Would they even be ready by then? Is there a faster growing shroom I should look towards? THX!

That is pretty tight, but you can short circuit the process and take mycelium with you - you won't have mushrooms but you will still be able to have the experience. Just grow mycelium out on a small grain - birdseed might be best. Then when fully colonized and "knitted" like a big cheese - be sure the "cheese" bruises blue - then either cut it up fresh and choke it down or let it dry and make a tea out of it. You don't mind eating a little bird seed do you?

Wait, what? You can trip on mycelium?

LOL, I did not know that. Never will try, but interesting.

to grow using WBS (Wild Bird Seed) a person needs a pressure cooker, tyvek, glove box and know sterile lab procedure... mushrooms arn;t as easy as everyone thinks.

the BEST option here is to grow Brown Rice Flower (BRF) Cakes. BRF cakes take 25-40 days to mature into healthy fruit-able mycelium. to get fruits it takes another 10-15 days. i can usualy get Mushrooms at day 35, my first grow took untill day 40.

you CAN trip on myc, but i wouldn't recommend it..... it takes 2 weeks to get good fruits that produce 5x more Psylocybin than myc does. mycelium has an average of .5 MG Psylobybin / Gram where as the fruits have 3 mg / Gram.

So long as it stains blue, yes you can use mycelium alone. Anyone who uses casing winds up having bits of mycelium clogged vermiculite/coir left behind as they clean the base of their fruit. This stuff can be used to make tea or even..... be extracted using the common methods. In the very old days, before people worked out the details of fruiting, they used to grow mycelium alone on easily eatable substrates. There were even those who rigged clean air bubblers, innoculated sugar rich nutrient solution and grew straight mycelium much as LC users do. They got the tech from pharmceutical companies who grow antibiotic bearing fungus in liquid cultures. The mycelium grown this way turn into small perfectly round pastel blue balls that can be washed and carefully dried with the potency at least the same as the fruit - I suspect when the nutrient is balanced correctly, that it is far more potent.

I was given to understand that the OP needed something quick and he was a novice. While I agree with your assessment of mycelium, I think you will find that mycelium that is about ready to fruit will stain blue and will be very close in potency to the fruit themselves. Remember that sclorotia is esentialy conglomerated mycelia and it is rated at about 2/3rd the potency of fruit.

Of course if the mycelium is grown on any sort of seed, you will have to figure that into your calculations - i.e. mycelium + seeds will not be as potent gram for gram simply because there is so much non-active material in the mix.
