You could look at the pistils, when most are brown thats usually a sign of maturity, however that doesn't always work the only way to truly know if they're done is to use a microscope or mag glass on the trichs

You can try to use a jewelers loupe. It isn't gonna get you "right up close and personal" with the trichs, but you should be able to judge the overall readiness. I never go by the "hairs". I've had them brown out in the 5th or 6th week before. The only true way IMHO is by the trichs. Some experienced (more so than I) growers can tell by looking at the calyxes and how swollen they are, but that ability comes with a lot of grows and observation.

If you have a camera, take a picture and then zoom into the pic.
Alternatively, when the plant starts using less water, when your pistils have started receding back into the calyx, (this is when I normally chop).

or/ If you are out of smoke, just get it chopped, lol.

yeah its a tricky one without a loupe, hear even a photographers one will do the job. Apart from that its the pistils starting to receed, but this is hard to track so just go with your own instinct on this, or clipp some popcorn and quick dry it, have a taste and see what you think....

Your buds will start to have a goldish hue to them. Look closely at the color and youll notice it change that's when the trichs are ambering.

What strain are you using? Any breeder worth his salt will post up flowering times for every strain he produces. If you are using a professional strain, I'd start by looking up when the professionals chop 'em. Good luck!

Easy to tell ripe bud if you know what your looking for by eye, suppose it takes a few grows to get use to but you know and smell ripe bud when you see it.

Yer just that you'll get to notice what a good ripe bud looks like, if it is 8 weeks from start of flowering not 12/12 as takes time to start flowering then i'd say give it a week or two more. Manufacturers flowering times are at best so no harm in a wek or two more. It is easy to find pics of ripe bud on the net, like every calyx is swollen and every red hair is receded into the calyx and gone scraggly. Microscope is handy but you should be able to see the amber trics without a microscope on white widow, patches of amber trics especially on the older leaves and calyxs.

I never liked the microscope way even when i had one so never really bothered much with it, every thing looked really cool at thirty times the size though. Peace

8 weeks of flowering, not 12/12. Flowering begins when it begins, not when you flip the lights. They also tend to give times assuming that you prefer a clear/milky high and from their fastest phenos. If you get a slow pheno and prefer a stony couchlock you'll find their times are lowballed.

I'm no expert, but I would say based on the picture that it's not ready yet. Looks great though, good job & good luck.

When the hairs are 25% to 50% amber depending on your taste. Don't forget when you harvest it and drying it the buts will still mature because its using up the energy in the branches and leafs that are still there.
