Does anyone have any knowledge about carrying a pistol while in possesion of medical marijuana. Obviously you can't be under the influence and carry a pistol, and I'm sure I'm not the only patient that would travel on vacation that posseses a MI CPL.

Ask your attorney; that is likely the only person in MI willing to fight for your rights to protect yourself...opinion via experience

If you have a card for marijuana, you cannot get a CCW. Because it is federally illegal, now if you had your CCW first you can still get a marijuana card. However, if you get caught with them together, or they look into it and see that you have both your in trouble.

you can carry a gun, but not a CCW not a concealed weapon. You would have to LIE on your CCW application in order to get one which is lying to the federal government. Which is why if you already have your CCW before you apply to the state to get your medical card, you can have both. Because the process of getting your medical marijuana card from MI does not ask if you have a CCW permit.
BUT - if you get caught with both , or if someone looks into it....

Well, that may be true. but as far as right now, it is illegal. Everything is gray in MI atm, it will be cleared up soon. MI will follow suit I think, if the other states approove this. It only makes sense.

If they allow people to carry guns and smoke marijuana, they better allow you to get a JOB and smoke marijuana.

EDIT: They will allow you to carry a gun while under the influence but they wont let you get a job if you cant pass a piss test? I think I would rather see people get jobs then to carry a gun, not that someone on marijuana would act stupid with a gun, I smoke everyday and KNOW for a fact I know how to use common scene when using a firearm. I just think they should worry about the people who cant support there family b4 they worry about if you can carry a gun under your shirt.

i totally agree with the job thing, that should have been implied. Just like someone with an oxy contin prescription failing for opiates.
I do understand why its such a problem though because the dispensarys and people carrying large amounts of medical marijuana are big time targets to get robbed or w\e. They need to take marijuana off of the schedule 1 narcotics list i know that much.

Shoot to kill and you won't be sued. Dead men don't talk. Your story versus the family that wasn't there. Case closed.

For a bit of Clarity: All states differ, I however purchased a pistol on April 20th of this year using my state ID and medical marijuana patient card, in order to pass a federal background check. I now own the pistol.

Protecting myself is my right and duty to my family.

just because you have a mj card does'nt mean you smoke it, grow it or are under the influence. so i dont see why you cant have a ccw. i have a mj card and a drivers license. that dont mean i drive stoned. i think your your over thinking your rite to bare arms.

Its true. And when you go get your Concealed Carry Permit, they will tell you the same thing in the class. A lot of the class is about laws and precedent, when you can and can't shoot, and when you do shoot you shoot to kill not wound. Dead men don't talk.

did you guys know michigan has an open holster law. you can carry any time you want, just dont tuck it in your shit.dont have one in the chamber. the only thing a ccw does is let you have it loaded in the car or when buying a gun you dont have to get a purchase permit.
