hold your hand under the light at canopy level. if its too uncomfortable for u then it is also for the plant... i'd invest in a sun systems yieldmaster reflector, 110$

With proper cooling, the plants should be at least 10" away from the bulb at all times. No amount of cooling will prevent light burn at shorter distances, though. Setting it to 12-13" each day should provide sufficient room for growth.

Any further away than 13" is a waste of the light, as long as heat isn't an issue.

thank you..thats what i wanted to know..how far is too far and a waste of light. i have enough cooling. a big fan blowing over the light and plant tops...so tomorrow ill lower it to about 12 inches above..right now its at 18 i think..damn

i did that but the leaves where starting to curl and burn on top. plus the sativa plant i have is about 3 inches taller than the white widow.
i like to have a small fan blowing over the tops of the plants. this should eliminate a lot of the heat. put something under the containers to even up the canopy.
 
will do sir. i will put a book or two under the pot...maybe ill put another fan in there to blow right over the tops plus the one thats blowing around.
