Was wondering what everyone uses for 400W metal halide bulbs. I've had a HPS/MH ballast for a while but have only used the HPS setting. Was going to get one but was shocked by the wide range of kelvin temps available. So can anyone lend opinions? I will only be using it for veg purposes. Thanks!

I never thought about it to much, but what I use is a:

Sunlite MH400/U Cat # 03663

or something like this:

You can spend $10-120 for a bulb, the question is are you going to get $100 of benefit.

I would get a cheap one, then start thinking about other bulb. :joint::peace: It sounds like you are thinking to much about it.

BTW - I go to Lowes or Walmart and get HPS lights for about $10

i do think that different bulbs are more intense and also last longer. you always get what you pay for in time :)
What kind of light do you grow with? :blsmoke:

BTW - go to your local Hydro Shop and see what they sell, listen to what they have to say, and then go pick one up for 1/3 the price at a retail hardware store.

The Ceramic Metal Halide from Phillps is a great choice at a fair price.
I have plenty of regular bulbs that work just fine.

But I was thinking about getting a CMH and use it during Veg and Flower, only $ 41.98 (that's pretty cheap).

Have you been using one Cowboy ? :joint: Or anyone else using them have a report ?

I have used them. That do a good job start to finish but still do not fatten buds quite the same as HPS. But produce good resin. So its a small trade off either way. You are correct GD, cant be used in an electronic ballast. And needs a HPS ballast to fire them.

i should maybe begin to use MH more often but im into T5 they work really well. people seem to think that mh work that much better. im not sure if i want to spend the extra on electricity..

I use a $16 GE 400watt MH. Output is around 4000K. My plants seem to love it. I save the expensive bulbs for flowering. For that I am using the ushios.

Right on. Thanks for the input. I did some quick research and no you cannot use a ceramic metal halide with an electronic ballast (which is the kind I'm running). Regardless of the brand of bulb what kelvin temp do you typically look for? I've seen them range from 3100 to 10000+.
