Alrighty, its about that time and Im getting super anxious, I have some pics below so hopefully I can get some opinions here.

The pic of the 24" is the tallest girl, only because the others we practiced L.S.T. and we wanted to see what would happen with the yield compared to the others. She is also a week younger than the others. (we had lost one)

So what do we think..... 1 more week or switch it?? (we are on day 30)

switch now, what strand is it, an indica or sativa, either way, switch SOON... youir gonna get a ton of growth coming up in the next month or so....Look out and good luck, keep us posted :)

I would say switch now. Your plants are about double of the normal time to flower. That's probably a good thing though. Good luck.

Were those clones or grown from seed? For a predominantly Indica strain, those plants look unbeleivably stretched for only 30 days vegging, I presume you vegged with HPS?

I don't think you have any choice but to go 12/12 now, those are going to be some seriously tall plants by the time they're finished.

Also on the sex, were they clones of a female or grown from feminised seed?

well the thing is when you have a 1000w hps its sorta hard to keep temps stable even with exhaust and intake, some people say 12" from the top of the plant........ yeah right..... if you saw my plants earlier you would understand the issue....... some crispy ass shit for real, my temps were like 100f seriously, so really my only option at that time was to raise it, oh well first time but I still think we have done a great job on them... my opinion

I'm on my first grow as well, I was forwarned by a few people that stretching might be a problem with my HPS so I invested in a MH conversion bulb. The plants grew short and bushy. Does your HPS bulb have an increased blue spectrum?

its honestly like the exact same color as.........the sun (reddish orange) next time around I will have a Mh for veg then switch to hps for bloom

Thats probably a good idea. It still looks like you'll get a good yield.
The added blue light, is not visible to the naked eye (i don't think). The HPS will still be that orangy color but some have like 30% more blue light to make them more appropriate for all stages of growth. I was wondering if you had one of those HPS bulbs?

You need a 1000w anything, to be at least 3ft from the plant tops - people on here put out really weird ideas on how close you can have these lights to the plant tops. In any case, why would you want a 1000w HPS 1 ft from the plant tops in vegging? In vegetative growth, plants need 1/4 of the light they need in flowering for perfectly optimised growth (unless you're supplementing with co2) which is about 2,500 lumens per sq foot.

A 1000w HPS puts out about 140,000 lumens at 1 ft, 35,000 lumens at 2 foot and 15,555 lumens at 3 foot, which is way way WAY more lumens than you need for vegetative growth. The closer that light is to the plants will not stop them stretching - that's caused by the large amount of red and infrared spectral outputs the HPS produces. HPS are not that great for vegging under for that precise reason, and that's why most people prefer blue daylight cfl's or MH's.

I bought this light from a friend for 500 fucking dollars and I hate that stupid ass hood.. pisses me off its just so small,

does it really look as if they stretched alot?? Ive been looking through a lot of pictures and Im seeing more tall skinny trees wrather than ones that are shot and bushy....... we will see though, like I said... first time and I am pretty happy so far... but I do know what is needed for the 2nd time around

anyways, you just told me something that I did not know before.. that hps will make it strech, thank you, and you are definately right, some people differ from others so much and it seems like people that have no idea what they are talking about answer questions sometimes.

Enhanced blue spectrum HPS bulbs, often incorrectly referred to as 'dual spectrum' bulbs, there's no such thing as a dual spectrum bulb, (no HPS or MH bulbs only output two spectrums) are still no match for a blue cfl or MH system for vegetative growth - the blue output simply isn't enough to counter-balance the large amounts of orange/red-infrared the HPS bulb produces which causes that stretching.

The reason there's an awful lot of tall spindly plants around is because everyone seems to have listened to the same wrong advice! Even Ed Rosenthall recommends HPS for vegging under, mostly because it has the highest lumen output of any system, but then he's not growing in small closets with limited height and can grow his plants as tall as he likes with however many lights he wants - he's not operating under the same restrictions your average home grower has to operate under.

I'd just get a conversion bulb for your HPS that would turn it into a MH system, but it won't ouput as many lumens as the HPS but that's not a problem. Or you could investigate some of the blue Envirolites or nlite flourescents - very effective for vegging and cheap to operate.
