A test in progress.... Miracle Grow soil vs. Fox Farms soil. Is MG really that bad?

FF must cost significantly more in other areas. Around me the 1.5 cubic foot FFOF bags are $10-12, and the 2 cubic foot FFHF bags are $12-13.

2 cubic feet fills 3 separate 5 gallon containers, at around $4 per container.

Granted that's not cheap, but MG isn't significantly less expensive.
I would like to know where you are getting FFOF 1.5 cf for $10. HTG is the cheapest place on the net and they are $22.

Raven,

Ever since I've first seen your avatar I've been waiting for you to start croaking "Nevermore" at one of these fools. I just can't help myself. Poe's, "The Raven" has always been one of my favorites.

Jack

And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted - nevermore!
That actually was one of my favorite poems, †L† and that was my favorite stanza...

As stated, the "Feeds for 3/6 months", is BS. FF is the richer soil of the two,(not by a whole lot) and will sustain your plants a little longer. Yeah, MG has those tiny balls in it, but they are nowhere near enough to sustain a larger MJ plant. :wink:
Here are 2 6ft hermies sharing one five gallon pot of MG. MG and well water, that's it, nothing else. Not very pretty (battled bugs and severe heat stress first few weeks in flower) but I am not complaining it smells wonderful! They were started from seeds straight in the MG soil, I even forgot to add the extra perlite.

I love it. We have a whole bunch of horticultural engineers here and even though MG is the #1 selling soil in the world it is junk. This is a perfect example of bad info being spread on here.

I think its kinda simple actually.. not tryna get too detailed but MG diddnt have MJ in mind when manufactured..Nor did FF Soil. So once again a Custom Blend which you can just Google would be better than both. YES it will grow and flower in both, but at the end of the day what you grow it in is what you get out. You are what you Eat ! MG as well as FF especially the timed release MG, they have all kinds of Additives they MJ doesnt need. **but MG and FF are WAYY more PRACTICAL** I mean only a major outdoor Farmer whos growing in the GROUND is prolly grinding Fish Guts Guano and Micro Nutes in an Organic Blend of Sexii'Ness. But thats the Reall iiSh.. MGDonalds.. Its not Real Food.

Raw, Im sorry for being an argumentitive prick but I get sick of people's ignorance (not directed toward you) on here and people shitting on grows because they aren't doing it the "Right" way. I am sure you must understand that.

No, I don't think he does. He is one of the ones that goes around correcting other growers.

I'm with you Bigv.... I just saw Brick Top post that seedlings can go without food of any kind for 5 weeks..... Some of the advice on here is just nuts...

It's truly a shame you have zero experience with Miracle Grow, yet saw fit to post over 25 times against it in a thread that clearly shows it to be the better commercially available soil.....

To me, that doesn't smack of any intelligence, it's more likely a void of.....

Not bad. 5 gallons, is quite a bit of soil, which is why they turned out pretty decent. Those tiny balls will keep releasing nutes for months, but not enough to keep your plants sustained optimally. They would've been nicer, had they been given a little fert, but, I'm actually surprised to see that those turned out so well. Next time, keep 'em in seperate pots, and they won't stretch so much on ya, and will also have access to twice as much fert(obviously.lol), which'll keep 'em from going deficient early.(they look like they turned yellow, a little early) Good work though, they did better than I would've expected, unfed, especially having two in one pot.:leaf:

Thanks for the input. Do you have an opinion on the nutes as far as working with MG? Simpler the better for me. I have some 4 weeks from seed, I was thinking very light Big Bloom but been afraid to try it. I tried it on 6 week old (practice) clones the last watering and I don't see anything different. I'm also trying to find the best way to boost the N without messing up P and K. I am learning the ropes here so I am sorry if it's rude of me to post on this thread. Thanks again!

thats just not good logic. anyone can fuck up a million dollar setup just as easy as fucking up a 100 dollar setup. why would you spread information about a product you've never used? you cant believe everything you read on the internet young one, grow up and move on.

ill take some shots of my girls tonight when i water them and ill show ya what MG can do.

Not seeking flames, but it says right on the bag:

"Fox Farms Happy Frog Potting Soil - Outrageous Organics from the Humboldt Nation"

Not quite as suggestive as "POTting Nutrients" though. Yes the capitals are like that. New product at the local nursery.

MG in 2 gallon containers and the only nutes i give em is some bat guano pellets that i put on top of the soil and water in. i get around 2 oz per plant..give or take. i run 4-8 plants in a perpetual grow under 4 150w hps lights.

a buddy of mine worked at a Hyponex bagging plant and he got me a shitload of MG moisture control, MG organic and Hyponex top soil...probably wont have to buy dirt for close to a year. i mix em all together with some perlite and vermiculite....seems to work great for me.

lol that reminds me of this radio commercial for a grow shop in my area. at the end of the commercial, in a deep, loud voice they say, "grow your own pot." then they pause for a second and a high pitched voice says, "of tomatoes."
