busted? my apartment was inspected =(

they came in to inspect the fire alarms, extinguisher, sprinklers.
they said they went into each individual room to inspect it.
i was gone between 11am-3pm and its now 4:45
i have a large 4x4 tent in my room, and several plants in my closet, all which are fairly visible. they said they sent out an e-mail notice last week, but I never got it.
im hoping they decided to go easy on a student and not call the cops, but im also expecting the cops to come knocking any second now.

You were growing in a dorm? Not the brightest for a college student.

Your rights as a tenant vary from state to state but usually they have to give you 24 hours notice before they enter your apartment. There is a possibility that if they can't prove that they gave you notice and violated your rights as a tenant and an arrest was the result that your case would be dismissed on the grounds of an illegal entry. I'm no lawyer but I'd get those plants out of there asap to CYA.

I have also never heard of apartment being inspected without someone there or prior consent.

Get them to a friends house, quick. If you don't have anywhere to take them, I would early harvest the kush, fuck the rest as a loss, keep the equipment, they can't prove what it was used for...actually, if they're is no one you can trust, fuck the plants all together, keep the equipment and bide your time...if you have ANYWHERE to take your plants, do it, I don't care if its a fucking field.

i bought a new lock for my bedroom for this very reason and i lock it every time i leave. that way bullshit like this never happens. i dont want anyone going through my shit without me being there. definitely get rid of your plants, surcharge is right, you dont want to risk your federal financial aid. whats worth more? the ounces you get from this grow or the money you get for college. cut your plants and get what you can out of them. stop growing at that apartment and move when your lease is up. also be careful now the heat will be on you soon one way or the other. dont be complacent shit like this does not just go away.

ok thank you all for the advice. i talked it over with my parents as well. im tossing everything. even if they don't come, ive learned my lesson, and i wont be growing in rented property anymore.

you probably dont have this problem, but just in case, make sure you dont have copious amounts of cash on hand. if the cops think you are selling, they will come looking for it. if i was you i would tear apart my place and remove anything that is illegal or could be used for illegal activity. also keep in mind there are alot of people who you dont know that now know you grow and smoke weed and they have all your personal info.

Sorry for the loss mate. If they seen plants growing that is enough to get a warrent. Hope you got them out in time, i would bet your going to get some kind of heat from it.

It would make an interesting case if you had the $$ to fight it, i'd like to know how they can only use one type of notice, as in no written letter?! Where i live, the fire marshal can come inspect ANY residence for fire codes (alarms ect) They just have to give 24hrs notice. Never seen it happen, not in a residential house anyways.

Was the grow tent open? Was anything illegal in plain view? If not then the cops have no way of getting a warrant, they can't just search you shit on a hunch. You should be fine just don't let them in without a warrant, don't even open the door unless they say police search warrant or they will push you out of the way and lie about it in court.

And it doesn't matter that its owned by a company they can't allow authorities to search your things, you'd still have to give them consent to search without a warrant.
Even if they know its gotta be weed they can't do shit with your consent or a warrant which requires some real evidence. That doesn't mean they won't be watching you though.
