light distance

Those plants look very good my friend. 18 inches is as close as you want to go for those youngins. If you have a fan blowing directly below the light to help move the heat, you might be able to go a little closer.

thanks man..check out my other post "female?" and let me knw what you think...also, i think im gonna let them grow a few more weeks till they're 2 mos old, weed out males, transplant mothers into larger pots, and then clone like a muther fecker....what is the average yeild per plant? given some estimating on growth etc...also how much hash can be made from a harvest. Thanks bro

Yield depends on the strain and how big the plant is when you start flowering and how much light you have, among other things, co2 etc. There was recently a post that someone started that addressed that very question. But its not an easy question to answer. I started flowering at about 14 inches and I am hoping for about 1 ounce per plant. That might be very optimistic though.

Most likey you won't be able to tell sex till you start flowering. I saw your post where you asked if the plant in the pic was female. I couldn't tell. Ha ve you started flowering?
What I did was I took clones from all my plants and once they showed sex a few days after flowering I got rid of the clones that came from the male.

From your pics it looks like you might be able to start taking clones in a few weeks.

Yup good idea...I think you can clone at 8 weeks, so that gives me 2 1/2 weeks left. Also, i think i may be overwatering (every other day)...the strains are:

california orange x chronic
skunk x white widow
jack herer

I'm shooting for a nice yeild (5 lbs+)...not sure how i'll achieve this yet...maybe if i keep my mothers vegging out while i take clones for a few months they'll get a big yeild.

So I should keep the light setup the way it is?

Thanks bro

With only 8 plants and one 400 W light, 5 lbs is not realistic for one harvest. One thing you could do is keep several mothers in veg and keep taking clones from them, let them veg a for a while and then flower them. while the first batch of clones flowers, take a second batch and let them veg while the first batch finishes flowering etc... You need more lights for this though and two different grow rooms. This will keep you harvesting on a constant basis.

splifman you think i should stay with 24 light? i just read an article that said roots grow faster in dark periods and more roots = higher yeild...i dont knw what do you think

willyjack, I've heard that as well. I know that's true for clones, you need a dark period in order for the roots to grow. I used to run veg for 24 hours but I also read that plants can only photosynthisize light for 18 hours a day, so anything more than that is overkill. After hearing that from several people I decided to cut back to 18/6 to save on power costs. It's worked well for me. More experienced growers on this site have also posted that they haven't seen any noticeable differences in growth and yield between the 24 and 18/6. Based on that info I would say it might be worth it to cut back to 18 hours light, especially if power cost is an issue for you.
