Topping my plants? Help Please!

I have just read that I should top my plants when it has 4 sets of leaves from the bottom? Is this correct? My plants are nearly 10 inches tall at moment.
Does topping the plant make it bush out?
Also could someone explain how to top a plant correctly please.
Many Thanks!

Bend it over, it will bush and there will be less shock to the plant to figure out whats happening. They are pretty strong and resilient, bending them is not going to shock them nearly as bad as topping. Good Luck.

I've had good luck with topping. The lower branches go crazy. Follow the FAQ and you'll be fine. I tried FIM and didn't have as good of luck.

I've got a 1/2lb with a 400 watt out of 2 plants by topping them. It can be very effective. Dont forget to trim the lower branches that are kinda gay before flower though so the plants has less places to build buds... This wall you'lll get bigger buds and less of them little nuggies.
