Can organic fertilizer burn plants?

Hi, ive been a passive viewer on this site for months and now seek advice, first let me explain my situation, i am used to using nutrients (canna a+b) and this is the first time i am using organic, i am about 5 weeks into growth after growing from seed.

When i used nutrients in the past (canna a+b in coco soil) i used it at half strength as i found using the full dose sometimes burnt the plants, i am wondering does the same rule apply for organic fertiliser? i am using Canna Vega in soil.

The reason i ask is when i first started watering a month ago i used half a dose of the organic fertiliser, but then the plants started yellowing, so then i started giving them the full dose and am pretty sure they are improving.

But i dont like to assume and would like someone to tell me if it is right to give the plants a full dose everytime, or half strength, or follow a fertilise/water/fertilise/water regime, please remember i am new to organic gardening and am seeking all the good advice i can get so please, tell me what i should know.

Also does organic fertiliser burn leaves if it gets on them whilst watering? i know nutrients do but again, i am new to organic, thank you all in advance.

yes, you can surely burn your plants with organic fertilizer just as easily as with chemical ferts.. bat guano, a very popular natural fertilzer, is very hot and can burn plants rather easily if not used carefully.. the one benefit that organics have over chem is that some of them tend to be released slower than chemical ferts, and therefore tend to burn less..
i guess the best thing is just knew what your using and now if its more time released or is it absorbed quickly by the plant, and i'm sure after a few grews you will get a feel for what your plants like and in how much amounts..

lack of food burns plants not food. its usualy when ph drops out of range and it cant eat the foods anymore. the roots know how much of what to allow in from what the plant says it needs. feeding to often or to high ppm will pull ph down cause it dosent need all that food is realy what that is

Thank you both for replying, yes i am sure i will get a feel for it after a few times, but organic really does seem like a whole different beast than what i am used to so i am eager to learn, would it be sensible to give them full dosage, then next time just plain water?

Also on the back of the Canna Vega it says the solution does not need acidifying, would you advise this? i ignored this fact the first few waterings and acidified the mix so it was pH 6.7 and used a half strength dosage, i think this may have had something to do with the slow growth and the leaves yellowing, is this possible? also the leaves did not look yellow from burning, they looked yellow from not having enough food, does this sound right? thanks

Hi there, i always make sure the ppm is very low as i always try and use minimal amounts of food but this is what i learned from using chemicals, and although i still keep the ppm low when using organic i thought that because it is organic you can use more as it is less 'toxic' as it contains only natural ingredients, is this true? for example i used half of what it said on the tin when using chemicals in the past, but now i use full dosage of organic. thanks.

its nothing to do with toxic. organics cant be eaten as they are, so they have to be broken down to be in a useable form and this takes time is why organics dont do this so called burn. but need to also watch as they break down the ppm rises and can pull the pH down and get the burns. using organics in a tea is a fast way to break ti down and faster for the plant to intake it. some of us that top dress with organics dont even get the effect cause weve already chopped by the time it gets going good.

hitting with a full dose wont hurt them but its a waste of foods if its not at the level or age to need that strength and can risk the pH drop and burning.

You cant burn them with organic fertz bro..They are lying. It says 10g pr 10 liters of soil on my fertz. I give my 1o liter buckets like 50g of it,AND I plant that little seedling direct into the x5 mix soil..NEVER hurt any of mine 70 seedlings through time..

Hi, i have read about making an organic tea and it sounds like something id want to do, as i obviously want them to have access to as much food as possible, do you have a recipe and instructions? can a tea be made with the Canna Vega? or do i need all new ingredients? thanks.

...........................cant burn with any foods. its lack of food again that does the burning. ive fed at full doese to a seed and didnt burn anything. as long as the right amount is used to run through each time the ph wont drop to allow the burn

i wouldnt make tea with bottled nutes as its not the only ingredient in there and is made to be ballanced as is. use dry forms for teas. i use 1 to 2 tablspoons per gal water and bubble for 3 days.

I know this post is old But I must reply.
This is just absolutely NOT TRUE. Weed plants are self feeders and create their own food through photosynthesis.

Weed plants Don't even need the nutrients we feed them. Nutrients are more of a supplement like a multi vitamin. They help in making sure your plants don't get any deficiency but they are not food. Light water and c02 are your plants food.
Just give your plants about half what the manufacturer says to start and go from there and you should be alright. I use happy frog soil and don't even give them any nutrients for the first month. Happy frog has lots of nutes. I actually add about 25% perilite to my soil Roots love oxygen and grow stronger and can take in the nutrients your feeding them better when properly aerated.

Too little is ALWAYS better and much easier to fix than giving them too much

Incorrect on so many levels....your answer even points that out....
What are you doing after that soil is nutrient depleted?

YES, you can burn your plants with organic nutrition!

Please expand oh wise one and give us your glorious knowledge since you know so much.

If you read you would see I stated I start feeding nutes about a month after I transplant. I started doing this after a grower with 30 years in told me to try it. As far as the organics being able to burn your plants we are in agreement. If you read the post I was replying to you would realize that.

Bottom line. Plants have been living on this planet and doing very well before man started bottling nutrients.

Do yourself a favor and read a book once in a while. You might learn something. The internet is full of junk and lies.

Got about 15 years on your grower sport..

How about you take a Botany class, sometime?

"Absolutely not true" is an over stated/incorrect term!

Plants use the available nutrients in the soil to feed the plant process's. I guess I like proper process explanations better.

BTW, Organic farmer, running a 4 farm organic co-op....... Born on a farm and been in agriculture or "agribusiness's" all my life....

Now then. Please point out where your post ^ says that organic nutrients burn plants......

I do agree with your last sentence, and the gist of your post.

Nutrient lines vary in the charting. Some at half strength will be a problem but, easy to fix that problem like you say....

Peace...
