I use that stuff. You really have to adjust the ph a bit to bring it up to 6-7 range. It varies, but I've measured ph readings out of the bag at 4.8, usually around 5.5 though. I use hydrated lime, mixed with water at 2 tsp a gallon to wet the dry stuff, then mix in fine dolomitic lime at 1/3 cup per gallon of soil. You could probably go more but I try not to get the calcium too high, can affect uptake of K, I think. Might have to look that one up. I even have to water with a real high ph water, 10-11 using potassium hydroxide/ph up, occasionally throughout the grow to keep the ph around 6.5

is the sunshine mix#4 the same deal as the promix? ive been in hydro for long enough that i cant mess around with the soil before i plant (dont have the time anymore) and also cant risk screwin it up either. i just need more vertical room for yeild right now. my table sits 3ft high and pots would clear up way more vertical space. plus my hydro room is already in use.

any soil recemedation as a good out of the bag soil? actual dirt or soil-less?

i just dont want to have to amend the soil anymore. gh all-mix is pricy and you dont get a huge amount but you can just throw it in a pot and ph your nutes to 6.4 and your set.

anyone know a cheaper product that's simalar?

I also use sunshine #4. Same technique to amend as the promix, as both are adjusted to 5.5 before bailing.

yea im having this same problem right now. I used a pro mix and the soil ph is like 5.0 I keep adding dolomitic lime but its not going up, The lime that I have is not super fine powder maybe thats my problem, I would say the grain size goes from powder to half a seed size,, is this about normal size..
My plain is also to get sunshine mix 4# mix it with a little perlite not much cause number 4# is already has good drainage also add worm castings and dolomitic lime.

how do you check the PH in soil less ? i'd like to get a meter but its kinda pricey. and ive seen the drops u put into a little vile and match the color but i dont think that would work cuz the water comes out brown or stained to begin with. i think those are just for aquarimums and pools. maybe they work?? i'd like to try those litmuth papers we used to use in high school chemistry. but i dont know where to find those.
