Can I use a 400W HPS in a 2'x2' grow tent?

400W HPS = 50,000 lumens
4 sq ft grow tent = 12,500 lumens per square foot.

Will this be okay if I keep my temps cool?

IDK but i would think that would be asking for a fire!

im in a 3x8' space (24sq ft) and my 400w gets pretty hot

also i dont think that you would have any room to grow in. if you have a pot thats a foot 6'' tall you only 18'' to work with.

also a 400w hps is 50,000 lumens @ 1 foot away

i think it would be like a oven!

i'm sorry. just get a little more height and if you can control the temps it could work.

depends on the real dimension of your grow space, your LxWxH. You're growing in a 3-D space, not a 2-D square. JUST is correct in assuming you have a limited growing space, 400w HPS will be to much. If you run a cool tube a 150w or even a 250w would be more than adequate for a plant or two in that space.

yea if you are in a grow tent as long as you have a cooltube air cooled hood and good ventalation you can def. use a 400 in your tent

i was looking into getting a four hundred to replace my now 250, and the guy at my local hydro store told me that it would be overkill unless i had a 3'x3' area.. anything less than that and he said that heat would really kill the benefits of the added lumens..

I agree with cowboy and humboldt. With good ventilation and an air cooled hood you should be good to go. You will definitely need an air cooled hood or cooltube though, without one of those you'll be too hot and kill the plants.

im doing the same thing pretty much but mine is 5x2x5.... How many cfls are you using for veg?
well i was thinking about starting off with two 42w and then just adding more as they get bigger. i did that before but i dont have that much room this time.

good inline fan good exhaust fan co2 coming in and be fine I'm in a 2x2 my bad thought I was in 3x3 but I got 4 girls cramped into tent with good air flow and circulation air I'm getting good results so far but 3x3 would be better or even 4x4 and upgrade to 600w hps

I think a better question is why would you want to do this?... For less than $100 you can get a nice led light that will last you for years...

Well I read the initial post and replied to it... Then I started reading back through the comments and I'm reading a lot of comments about how, and cfl's... And I'm thinking holy shit this sounds like a thread from 10 years ago... So I looked at the dates of all the comments and the original post and realized how old the thread really was
