I have IBS so high fatty foods such as brownies and certain things may cause more pain than good but if I make cannaoil and put it in capsules and swallow it is it the same effect? I dont imagine that that little amount of oil could carry too much fat either.. Thanks help appreciated

Oh yes, I get the same effect! :eyesmoke:  One capsule helps keep my pain more manageable; two send me on a little trip.

Just a couple weeks ago, I pulled out my scale after filling capsules. These were the results; should give you a good idea about fat content...

14g White Widow x 1.5 cups (12 oz.) canola oil

Gross weight: 44 g
# of pills: 49

0.89 g average gross weight per pill
0.61 g average oil weight per pill
0.28 g average bud weight per pill
----------------------------------------
1.68 g average daily cannabis dosage if taking one pill every four hours
(take into account the 1.5 cups of oil drained from pulp to be used for cooking)
Don't forget that canna oil can be used in salad dressing (sometimes salad is great for my IBS, other times it's bad for it), and any foods with which you'd use oil or butter for cooking/serving. Different oils have different kinds of fats as well, and of course some are good for IBS and some are awful. Stick with the healthy oils (coconut, canola, olive, etc.), and find the recipes that do use IBS-friendly foods and do not cook with a really high heat (as that is what damages good fats and makes them so bad for us).

Even if you go the capsules route, your IBS probably has a lower chance of being triggered if one of the healthy oils is used.

Thanks a lot for all the info! and there is enough fat for the thc etc to grab onto in the lower fat oils like canola?

All I've ever used is canola, so I can't make comparisons, but I do know that the TCH grabs on and takes hold.

Thanks a lot for the info im anxious to try.. So would about 25 grams of stems and and eighth make up for 14g's of bud? WW in your case.. Also can I get capsules at like a super supplements store?

I've heard you can get the capsules at Walgreen's, so I'm sure they'd be pretty easy to find at health food and supplements stores. Keep in mind that you only want to use the gelatin capsules, not the vegetable ones... sucks for Vegans, but the vegetable capsules won't hold up to the oil. (They dissolve, if I remember correctly.)

For the capsules, you do NOT want stems or trim in there. All that is perfectly fine when everything's going to be strained from the oil and tossed, but not when you're going to be swallowing the pulp; the stems and trim can be very hard (read: painful) on the tummy. My experience has shown stems to be worthless, and I hear the same said by others; but perhaps you've had some success with extracting enough cannabinoids from stems to make it worth it. If you do use stems for this, you definitely want to make sure every bit of them are removed before filling the capsules.

Here's the long and short of what I've been doing... If I'm making cooking oil, I simply fill capsules with the strained pulp rather than tossing it. If I'm specifically making THC capsules, I grind up however much bud I'm planning on using at the time, and add just enough oil to moisten the nearly-powdered bud (say 0.5-1.0 ml of oil per gram of bud). Either way, I simmer the mixture on "low" in a crock pot for six to eight hours; no burning/overheating at this setting, and no stirring is even necessary (though I do it anyway)... just plug it in, and you can literally forget about it the rest of the day without a single worry.

Cooking recipes call for a certain amount of butter or oil, but you can make as many or as few capsules at a time as you want. This is great whether you're a bit low on bud for particular recipes, or just don't feel like filling a hundred capsules at once; I have total control over how much I want to make at one time.

Oh, and I fill capsules while I'm sitting here draining my brain in front of the TV. It's very tedious, and the TV helps distract me from how extremely boring it is.

Do keep in mind that although it seems like edibles take a lot of bud, in reality they really don't when you do the math, and it's therefore really not a sacrifice to use so much up front. The numbers I posted in my first response show this... if I take a capsule every four hours round the clock (six capsules in a 24 hr. period), I'm ingesting about 1.68 grams of bud a day. That's not any more than I was using daily when all I did was smoke. :D

Ahh alright thank you for the info.. So one capsule will actually get you high and help with cramping etc?

They got me high for a few days, but I adjusted to taking one every four hours. Now they just keep me in a very relaxed state; kind of more emotional than a physical feeling, if that makes sense. I'll still get high if I take more than one, but my goal is to obtain as much pain relief as possible with as little constant high as possible. (I have to be medicated round the clock.)

I don't know how well these work for acute pain, as I take them on a schedule. All I know is that all aspects of my chronic pain are decreased in general since I started taking these regularly. Not gone, but much more tolerable and manageable. If brownies have helped you, then these should too. It should just be a matter of figuring out what dose works for you.

Ahh well I will definately be trying it out.. Harvest is about a month and a half out and its first grow :D But I think this would be a really nice way to maintain less irritation and seems like you get a lot of use out of a somewhat little amount of bud. Thanks for all the help im excited to try
