NOW I HAVE GROWN JUST A FEW PLANTS RECENTLY, AND THEY HAVE ALL BEEN CHRONIC BAG WEED,, BUT,, IS THERE CERTAIN PLANTS THAT JUST HAVE LOOSE BUDS, AND PLANTS THAT HAVE TIGHT BUDS, OR AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG,,, CAUSE,, I KEEP HEARING THAT ALL THE BUDS SHOULD BE TIGHT AND CRYSTALLY... I KNOW IM DOING THIS RIGHT, DUE TO THE GREAT BUD BUT, ALL MY PLANTS ARENT TIGHT BUDS NO MATTER HOW LONG I LET THEM GO, SOME FOR OVER 14 WEEKS,, AND STILL LOOSE,, GREAT,, BUT LOOSE, AND SMELL LIKE HAY SOMETIMES,, WHATS THAT, AND IS THERE A WAY TO NOT HAVE THAT AWEFULL SMELL,, HELP,,, PLEASE,:peace:

def depends on what mastakoosh said. if your using cfls, theres your answer. cfl tends to produce airy buds while hps produces dense nugs. proper curing and drying will eliminate that hay smell like he said also.

THATS WHAT I THOUGHT,, SO I BOUGHT 3 HPS LGHTS, 9 CFLS, AND 1 MH,, IN A 6FT. X6FT. AREA AND STILL,,, THATS THE ONLY REASON I BROUGHT IT UP... CURED, HUNG FOR 2 WEEKS,, TILL WAY DRY,,PUT IN CANISTERS, AND AIRED OUT EVERYDAY FOR 2 WEEKS MORE,, CONFUSED,,,,,,

I've found from growing bagseed plants that sometimes they are just airy. Usually they are pure sativa's and I find they usually need a month cure minimum.

Sounds like they are not getting flush of all the nutrients properly before harvest. This happens to everyone first couple of grows. Brake off a big leaf and taste the juice inside. Bitter taste=still full of nutrients. CLean pure water taste=properly flushed. Also MAKE SURE to cut the plants down in the morning before the lights come on. This will keep residual nutrients salts and starches in the roots rather than drawn up into the leaves when the lights are on. Dry til buds are crunchy (4-10 days) and then cure til sweet smelling (2-8 weeks)

My buds always get fluffy. Then again I've ownly grown sucessfully once, and it was under 2 4 foot T5 34w Fluorescents and a couple 20w CFL's. Flowering on wednesday and I'm still using the same light setup.

In my experience I began producing fluffy. Lighting, Nutes, Air Flow, Temperature, & Humidity were neglected.

As I moved forward and developed my knowledge of this beneficial plant and its environmental requirements, I became aware of Temperatures and Air Flow.

I designed a grow room with Air Flow in mind. I still ended up with wispy/fluffy bud that had no weight or amazing medicinal grade.

I soon stumbled on a 1.2kW 6 plant grow that ended up the same. This person, pretty much like my first time, neglected certain aspects and hoped for the best.

Together we pondered over the idea of increasing bud density. Over time we both began to take more control of the plant environment. Gradually, over the timescale of tens of months and perpetual growing we started to get denser and higher yields.

I tell you what was done.

The triplets: Air Flow, Temperature, & Humidity

Crucial! Fresh Air and the removal of stale air is very necessary. This flow of good quality Air is a must and should not be skimped on. With adequate Air flow, one will seldom find many problems with Temperature and Humidity. If Temperature becomes and issue, then having a switched Exhaust can help keep Temperatures up. Or if the Temperatures are too high, then either more fresh air or an Air Cooling device is required.

In my experience, sufficient Exhaust was usually enough for 3000W of HPS in a room with a window open that neutralized the vacuum created by filtered 10" Extraction ducted to a chimney.

Nutrients. Know what your plants require. Learn each stage of the plants development. Understand why a plant requires certain elements at particular stages of its growth. Understand the physical traits of common deficiency. Over watering; Under watering; Potassium Lack; Over Nitrogen etc. I'm not saying one has to learn absolutely everything, but a little knowledge helps to counteract deficiencies as they arise in their early stages as oppose to waiting until your plant is stressing out.

Knowing what your plant food does for your plant is good information. Knowing what certain amendments to your nutrient solution can do for your plants is also beneficial. Much of this is trial and error. You can ask many people advice on feeding, and they do what is best for them personally. Who's to say it will work in someone else's Grow under different conditions? *shruggs*... Know your Nutes!

Lighting. I began my hobby with 250W hps & mh. But with all other aspects not in check, I could have ran 1000W and still not gotten anything better than I did. Using a lot of light is something I recommend to those who has the ability to address all of the point I raised above as a single unit.

Loose Vs Tight.. Well a friend just harvested some AK47 which is very very Loose. They grew in hydro under 'newbie' conditions. I am growing the same strain under very good conditions in comparison and my 40 day in to bloom AK47s are rock hard and still have a way to go. Environment and knowledge and access to resources the plant requires is all I provide that is different.

Sorry for the long post.

I would have to agree about the cfl's causing the "loose" buds...although i have never grown with a actual hps lamp i know from fellow growers that they tend to produce thick dense buds due to the light intensity. I have 12 cfl's and 2 4foot dual tube flouro fixtures for a total of over 31,000 lumens of power. Which is actually higher than a 250w hps's output but still i have loose buds, very hairy and crystals are forming everywhere. The main cola is more like a cluster of 10 or so buds instead of forming 1 nice thick bud. I have 2 plants in my closet, 1 female, 1 hermi, but due to the hermi i have to knocked up plants of 2 diff strains. from eyeballing it i can say between both plants now, it appears to be about 1 1/2 oz's or so, the buds also havent really made any size inprovement over the last 2 weeks either, just more hairy...so im not sure if thats due to cfl's or the seeded plants. on Marijuana Seeds Search Garden i found a article stating that once a plant is pollinated, it will stop forming as much buds and dedicate its power to producing seeds, not sure if thats true 100% but is sure would explain my problem

Yeah that is true...they focus on making seeds and calyx production (the things that make your buds nice and dense) almost comes to a halt. I had 2 or 3 girls get pollinated in the past

i grow a few strains that i have found are usually more "airy" as you call them, there is a product called GRAVITY humbolt puts it out, using this very lightly a few weeks before harvest always brings my nugs in very very tightly and that sort of spiraly rose look to them...........but yeah bad genetics and dna can attribute to the looseness of the nuggets, still harvest the fluffy nugs but look for signs that show which plants are fluffy at a younger age, just clone the plants that dont have these traits and start growing a supercrop of tight nuggets,,,, YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR CROPS!!! people underestimate good ol fashion clonin, the tightest spiraling and hardest nugs i have a had were from a feminised dolce vita seed.

I think loose buds is what im most afraid of and i totally agree abut the main colas being a huge cluster of buds growing on top of eachother! Its awesome. RIght now i am on day 27 of flowering with cfls, 17 to be exact pumping out just under 27,000 Lumens. I have recently adjusted trying to get the lower half of plant (shes big) to beef up some befor harvest. Do you guys know what i will get from these light light buds? Like .2"s i guess? I dont know check it out if you like? DIdnt mean to spam just figured it was on same general topic.
