Best Damn Reservoir you can make,,,

Wow thats a big cooler! First of all your water change is going to be a bitch. Im sure you will have the standard drain plug, but keep in mind you have to refill and clean that beast once a week or so. Also I dont think one 600 watt is big enough to cover that area, Im thinking your gonna need two. Im running a 400 on a 48 quart now, with two flowering plants, or 4 babies. And Im looking to upgrade to 600w for my setup.

Why is it people always seem to need to tell you exactly what you need to do to maximize YOUR grow? I mean its pretty obvious bloomer has a slight idea of what he's doing - I'm pretty sure most people that chime in save a few souls on this site have some catching up to do to reach his level.

Sorry... it just irritated me today.

For us space conscious cabinet dudes I was wondering. Finding reservoirs that would fit my cabinet was a tough deal to get the right dimensions and capacity. Since changing out reservoirs would not be a good option, how durable is that foam insulation if I were to make it into a box just larger than my res (22 x 16 x 6high), ditch my current lid, set my res in the new cooler box and set my new foam lid on top? I can still throw ice bottles in my res. It also solves light issues as well as keeping things cool.

It seems pretty cheap too at $10 for a 4'x8' sheet.

Also by keeping water temps down, will that allow plants to tolerate higher air temps?

Great idea for great inspiration! +rep dude

The 2 inch foam is very sturdy. Plus I tape it with the foil tape completely, top, bottom, sides. then i cut the holes for the net pots.

Any res other than Igloo I can't help out. I tried them all and Igloo works for me.

65/67.5 f in the res and the heat can get up to 86 f no ill side effects.

If I am limited for space could I put all 8 in bloom in the same cooler ...I just dont have the room to have 4 more coolers to put 2 in each. Would it still work just not as well?

Hell yeah bloom, great idea with the coolers.
I don't have any problems with my 30g rubbermaid though LOL
I follow the rule of 5 too. :)

Hey great stuff BB !!!!!.......... My first time at DWC, doing some moms (4) outdoors. Was wondering how to keep the root zone temp manageable in the coming warm months, looks like i found the answer!

I have a simple question: what pumps are you running? I just bought some cheap wal mart pumps yesterday to get them outside. Now I need to get some quality pumps.:hump:

I'm also going to replace one of my res' inside to see if it helps with the temp.:peace:

General Hydroponics Dual Diphragm. 320gpm. 4 outlet pumps.

I know they ain't cheap at $64.00 each but damn they work.

Put the 6 inch elite stones on and watch the bubbles.

I run 4 pumps in each cooler for a total of 16 air stones.

Glad it's working for you,,,

I agree with those GH pumps. I absolutely love mine. I can have it in my bedroom and it doesn't bother me one bit.

Though unless noise is a huge concern for you - I'm curious why you run so many of the GH pumps vs running a larger piston type pump like the ones from sunleaves that would be able to power everything by itself via an air divider.

Not telling you what you should do - just curious why you do it.

Noise is my #1 enemy. My girls don't have an overbearing odor during the grow so exhaust is straight out. It's the damn noise
I have issues with and the big pumps are LOUD.

Tried, tested and proven performance without fail. Great warranty and return policy. Worth the money I struggle to make.

I've only had one pump out of 12 go bad in the last 2 years. Boxed it up, drove to the Hydro store, walked in, placed it on the counter.
Picked up a new one waved at the counter guy and left.

You wouldn't believe what I've Mcguyvered up over the last 10 years of inside growing in DWC.

Spend the money on quality, she'll never let you down if properly cared for.

Hey Boom,

Thought I'd post my Work In Progress. My water temps have been steady at 74-75 so I needed to get moving on a plan because the roots are starting to brown up. Here's the results.

I have exactly 18" of depth in my cabinet and my reservoir is 16". I went to Lowe's and purchased 1" rigid foam insulation. I cut the foam to fit around my reservoir and built a custom lid. What is nice about the lid is that it is now completely flat to let the net pots come closer to the edges spreading them out more. The reservoir on the bottom is what is inside the new cooler on the top so you get some perspective.

The night I built this got too late and I needed to get my ladies put to bed and get to sleep myself. Today, I plan on building another one, taping them both up with Aluminum tape and then spray paint the inside black.

The result? The first night in, I dropped in an 8 oz. frozen water bottle. Then next morning, temps were at 65.9 and the bottle was thawed. I pulled it out and haven't had to add another bottle in 4 days...temps are at 67.8. And that's with no tape yet and lots of leaks. :)

Structure is provided by toothpicks acting as dowels so the sides and bottom won't slip at the joints. I used skinny pieces for the underside of the lid to form a rim so the lid fits tightly. Again using toothpicks to hold it in place and the Aluminum tape keeping it together.

Comments welcome. I'll try and remember to post the finished deal.

peace

anyone have any info on how loud these sunleaves 600gph are (taking consideration that they will be mounted with every effort possible to vibrate proof its contact on 3/4 fire treated plywood?

http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=51179

i was planning on running two, and diverting to 4 outlets with 12" sunleaves air sticks, for a total of 8... if my math is correct i should get getting just slightly lower overall output... using the 120qt 5 day cooler from walmart (just ordered it =-D)... i am just wondering if there is anything wrong with this setup technically? also, system would be in 2x7 closet with bifold door, planning on scrogging, 3-4 with maybe slightly lower veg times under a 600w hps. i have separate mother/cloning room with a t5. i also will be using an aircooled hood with:

http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=52531

if i need too i will dynamat the entire room, but i would prefer not to... main concern is sleeping as it is in my bedroom, though i have an even larger closet i could possibly use... kinda just wondering if anyone could give examples as to how loud this would be... is it comparable to the noise from an 100gal aquarium? because i could dig that... ive got my entire shopping cart with about $700 worth of product waiting for htg to open so i can see if they would like to work out some free shipping or a discount, considering i bought my grow light from them on ebay too for 250... i think buying $1k worth of stuff is worth a discount... either way, please gimme some info if you could as i would like to conclude this sale by around 10am EST =-D

edited to add:
well i ordered all of the stuff, only thing left is nutes, and my combo meter... HTG basically paid the $50 in shipping as well... very cool people...

So far my jury is still out on thsoe Sunleaves 600 gph pumps. Mine isn't to loud. I luckily have an enclosed area that I can place the pump in and then route the air line out of so it contains the noise a lot. Even so just with the door closed to my door area I can hear the circulation/exhaust fan more then I can hear the pump even when it wasn't inside the box.

However - my pump works for crap right now. I have to run it back to the store I bought it from because with two ceramic stones and one just generic crappy air stone hooked up to it - the thing hardly puts out any bubbles. Hook up my General Hydroponic dual diaphragm pump and the buckets darn near boil with all the bubbles. I called the shop and they said I could run it back to them and they will either repair it or swap it out.

I'll be sure to report back once I get everything sorted out. If they cant show it working at the shop I'm just going to ask if I can pay to upgrade it to another GH dual diaphragm pump.

well hopefully when i receive my sunleaves pumps they will work ok. otherwise i will probably shoot em back to HTG and go with the dual diaphragm pumps. today i received my grow light, so im super geeked... i managed to overlook that this one did not come with timer or yoyo's so i just ordered those, hopefully everything will arrive by wednesday or tuesday, so i can get everything set up... also, i bought a 4" inline fan, and the flanges on my hood are 6", am i able to buy an adapter flange from lowes or home depot?

edited to add:
i found a 4" to 6" round reducer.
