do you think that instead of tapping into the exhaust line with a T splitter running a duct all the way to the grow room
do you think i could some how tap into the exhaust line and place an air pump in there with a timer the timer and cords can be placed outside the water heater exhaust duct then you can just run the air pump hose to the grow area

i grow dwc, and have lots of airpumps everywhere
at the bottom of the air pump is an air intake hole that is covered with a peice of cotton that can be removed- do you think that the hose is large enuff to pump enuff co2 into a sealed grow area
instead of running ducting and trying to dial in fans this would rquire an on/off timer and placing an airpump in the exhaust ducting to suck up the co2 and push it in the grow area

I think it would work if you had it set to pump air from the exhaust gases when the heater was fired up to achieve maximum ppm from the hot water heater.

yeah the air pump would live in there

idk if you know how an fish tank air pump work
but yes it draws in air threw the hole and pushes it out the tubing end so i'm figueing if i place this in the heater exhaust it woud draw in co2

i dont think its hot in there (the exhaust duct) to melt the air pump



in a sealed grow room it would work
but my concern is is the tubing to small
do the sell pumps with bigger tubing
maybe i'll use two pumps

Bro, it gets very hot in the exhaust port of a hot water heater. i don't think your pump will survive. If anything, the electrical wiring will get fried.

someone here might be of help...

i am looking to do somethign similar to this, but, my hot water heater is in my basement, and my grow is in the attic. That being the case, i have to feed a tube down to my hot water heater. I plan on using 5/8" black plastic poly irrigation tubing. I need to attach something, some sort of fan or air pump, to the top of this line, to SUCK the air from the basement, up the line, into my grow room in the attic.

A fish tank air pump does high pressure, but not high volume. I need something that doesnt waste energy on pressure, but just does decent volume of air... like some little turbine or fan or something. Let me know if you come up with any good ideas.
 
other 2 ideas would be to use an aquarium air pump and thinner lines, but i just dont see that being effective.

second idea would be to put the room under vacuum, and hope that the vacuum of the grow room brings air up the line?

for my original idea, im wondering about like a little dust buster motor or small vaccume cleaner, etc? im also looking into hottub air blowers.

The setup for DIY generator from exhaust gases is meant to be used in a sealed room and be located close to the exhaust gases source, Mine is located in my 2 car garage and is 12 feet from the flower room. You really won't see no benefit from the co2 being pulled into the attic and then be blown away by fans that I am sure you will have to have to help regulate temps.

Venting these gases into your attic grow space is just plain dangerous and stupid. CO2 and carbon monoxide gases are heavier than air and will seek the lower levels of your house because I doubt your entire attic is air tight in relation to your living space. If these gases build up in your living area they will KILL you and your family. Please think over your decision to vent these gases into your attic for your own safety.
 
grow room in attic is sealed, no air has to come and go, i have AC units.

and ive been dying to mention all this drama can be shattered with a 27 dollar carbon monoxide alarm from lowes.

and on a technical note... the carbon MONOXIDE is only created when there is an abundance of carbon DIOXIDE near a flame.

So what that means is you could pump infinite amounts of co2 somewhere, and as long as no flame is present, carbon MONOXIDE (the dangerous one) cant exist.

and while a super high amount of carbon dioxide is not healthy either... youd notice your plants dying first

Hope this helps a few people relax and plan their ops accordingly

Actually carbon monoxide is produced a couple ways, when all the oxygen in the air get's burned up, or when the fuel source is being burned unefficiently.
But that's neither here nor there.
Get a couple monoxide detectors and you'll be alright. Besides if its a newer WH, its not producing any monoxide anyway.
What I did to SUCK the exhaust right from my water heater was find the cheapest bathroom fans I could find at lowes, very low cfm's. I took the box it came in, and turned it into a vaccume box. Basically, the exhaust of the fan itself is blowing CO2 that I rigged up a vaccume tube to the box that is sucking from the WH. Confused yet?
Its actually pretty simple, and saved me a bunch of time. I'm going to go down and take a couple pics for you soon as the lights come on.
In the mean time, I need to re-itterate a couple warnings. This can be dangerous due to the fact the vaccume created may be strong enough to blow out your pilot. If this happens just put your fan a couple feet further from the WH. Also, there is a filter of some sorts on the bottom of my WH, I assume that its on a lot of newer ones these days. Check that every couple of weeks and tap it clean, mine got clogged and somehow suffocated my pilot. Luckily my pilot has a failsafe if not lit, no gas travels through.
This should be good enough for you. Have you figgured out where your exhaust of your WH actually goes to? It may actually vent right through your attic, then you could forgo all the extra tubing.

thats exactly how I pull my co2 from my wh into my flower room (with a bathroom vent fan). Mine is in the flower room itself and the exit port is behing a 16 ocsilating fan and this distributes the co2 over the entire grow area.

Of course, yours is where I got the idea! Except your is a lot nicer than mine, haha.
Mine is actually variated a little bit, I made the box close to the WH to allow maximum CO2 flow from the tee. Just my little variation. I still of course give you all credit for laying it out so wonderfully.

So how is it working out for you??? Mine is kicking ass. Here are some recent pics of my on going perpetual grow.

up in my attic, there is a SOLID PIPE that goes up to a vent, out the top of my roof. I ASSUME that is my plumbing methane vent pipe.

That is the only one i can find coming up and out, so i assume thats not going to do me any good. Come to think of it, my water heater goes into the base of my chimney, so its going out that way i think. Methane doesnt help plants grow does it? :)
