Indoor low budget grow

I just germinated a seed I found in a pretty good bag of bud. There usually is never any seeds in the weed I buy, so I was actually stunned to see a big healthy seed, not pissed. Anyways, I germinated in wet paper towels, in the dark at the current temp in my apartment of 72 degrees. I then planted the little germinated seed in a small pot of miracle gro potting mix. Watered just a little and left in the dark for 24hrs to give the seed time to recover from the shock.

this is the local mid-range "chronic" I found the seed in. This is some of the better stuff that migrates in the circles that I do. I also have some bud that is supposedly Jack Herrar. See below, I wasnt fortunate enough to find a seed yet though. But this is the kind of bud I would like to be able to grow someday.

I am currently operating under two 75w cfl bulbs that I fitted into the lid of a cardboard paper box. I installed a couple holes for air. The lights dont put off much heat so no worries there.

I just got a cheap hps light at home depot. It was originally a security light. It is the correct spectrum for the vegetative cycle of cannabis however. It is low wattage though, so It will be a long cycle as well. It only puts out 75w of hps light. I will post again soon as soon as the grow box is completed.

i wouldnt use cardboard, dont burn down the house!
eh..nothing hot is touching , thanks tho. it will only be there for a little while longer. Any advice on nutes to use during veg? Also, Ive read to use 2700k cfl's during veg instead of my 75w hps.. any suggestions?

NOOOOOOOO.....everyone is buying 2700K cfl's...don't buy those...they put out red spectrum which is used for flowering....u need daylight 6500K bulbs if you want that baby to grow right...as for nutes 20-5-5 is good, i'm using a 35-10-10 with good results...but don't forget to always start off at about 1/8-1/4 strength and slowly add more nutes till the reccomended dosage

well soo many people have different advices...from my experiences i stick to solely useing bluespectrum only for vegging...and i got good results, i know some people put in a warmlight during vegging but i never do.

Thought i'd throw in my two cents...

The "best" light would replicate sunlight. So to get the ideal light would require at least two different spectrum of bulbs. The blue/cool during veg and red/warm during bloom is ideal for a single spectrum but is not ideal.

Having said that, MH (or CFL equivalent) used for vegging and HPS (or CFL equivalent) used for blooming is the ideal for keeping cost and heat down while making it as "ideal" as possible for the plants.

so you are saying I should go ahead with the 75w hps or use a red spectrum cfl for flowering? The two cfl's Im using for veg were said to be 75w replacements. The sprout has grown almost an inch in the last 24hrs. I will add a couple more bulbs in the grow closet Im constructing. I figure it will need it and they are inexpensive anyways. When should I transplant to the bigger pot? The one I have is almost a 2 gallon pot and already has potting mix in it, and Im getting ready to add some perlite. But when should I transplant? I dont wanna shock the little thing again so soon. Also, feel free to check on my new pics I put up, I have no clue what kind of weed this is except it came out of some fantastic bud. Lets all keep fingers crossed for a girl!!

i was just pointing out the ideal stuff is just a goalpost - we never really hit it.

My advice is to check out grow journals that use CFLs and find out what the people use whose plants you admire.

hehe that's how Petunia was born, a big brown seed popped out of the last bud of hydro I had, my jaw dropped, I rubbed my eyes and I pinched myself. Threw it in a pot, and it grew :)
