AeroGarden Guide *NEW AND IMPROVED*

Thanks for all this information, it's a great help. I've registered as a caregiver for a friend/neighbor who just got her MML in Michigan. Your sharing will help someone's pain more than you know. I've printed your first post as she doesn't have net access.

That being said, I got her an aero garden and our first start was a total fail. Used both the starter tabs and tried to germinate in the pods it came with. No luck at all. We have newly germinated seeds now and are ready to load the aero garden again.

Should I stick with the gray foam things that they give you as a medium or should I get something else? It's winter here so growing supplies could be really limited at most stores.
Second question is I've seen people suggest both the herb/spice setting or the tomato setting for light. Which do you folks suggest for the first few weeks. I'm planning on adding light after we get viable plants (elec bill will be an issue so I'm being as conservative as possible w/ resources). I can follow your guide on times but I'm 35 miles from her house now and cannot visit more than once a week w/ time and gas restraints so I'd love to just use the auto setting she can understand over the phone.

Have the extra stone and air pump, distilled water from the dehumidifier, good seeds, extension cord. What's the figure 8 cord for? Is that in case your AG is missing the cord?

Once again thanks for the great help from a noob.

ive got a batch of 4 plants in my aerogarden and i ve heard that i need to use something else other than ag whats the deal are the ags not as good as i thought please take a look at my pictures and let me know any pointers you can give me

You need the figure 8 cord so you can hook you lights up to a timer, so like 18 hours on, and hours off for veg, the AG is fine to harvest in, you can use the grew sponges, they should work just fine, i would germinate in a paper towel and not the AG. you will also need extra CFL's to throw into the mix

A pic of the lady would be nice, but im sure she will be fine when you LST her, that should be enough light for now, you could always add more as you go, since your low on cash, and the AG nutes are fine, i used mine for my first grow the whole way thru

I have two plants growing in an aerogarden veggie pro and am about to start flowering in about a week or so. my aerogarden doesnt have a 12/12/ setting and was going to put the whole thing on a timer. my question is will it affect my plants a lot if the air pump is off for 12 hours? attached are some pics of the pants. they are about a month old and are from Ak-47 seeds. any help would be appreciated. thanks

you can get a figure 8 power cord from radio shack and then use a timer allowing the pump to run 24/7 by plugging that figure 8 cord into the light directly. The aerogarden comes with a separate light plug so just unhook it from the hood.

My experience with the aero garden was not a good one for my first grow, i would def recomend for starts or clones and have incorporated it into my SOG system where i take cuttings from mother plant and get them too root, I use a clone gel disolved in res. then move plugs to my SOG system and put them into flower removing lower foilage and just grow the tops to produce 2 ounces every 2 weeks. The prob with start to finish with the aero grow is the time and size of the plants at harvest you have to remove top and plug in cord to timer for flower. Also the root system gets so large it pushes the top of the garden letting light in and causeing root fungus. I have an album in my photo bucket that shows the whole first grow, one plant yielded 1.25 ounces and took 16 weeks total i had to harvest early due to the root rot from the light. Also germinating in the aero grow takes longer as well, but the pete plugs work better than the sponge ones that come with the machine.
Last thing the pump on the aero grow gows out quick if you dont change the filter with every flush and they are hard to come by they get back ordered on a regular basis, i am waiting on one now and they are out of stock until the first of april so when they come in i would suggest getting a spare or two, they are easy to replace and only cost 10 bucks they also work well in a 12 volt aero pot or drip and flow use less electricity and have a lower water flow than most pumps.
