I don't know if I would have cut that many corners........ PVC can be picked up free almost anywhere....... The fittings would cost a few bucks. And Panda plastic and duct tape would get it done real cheap.......

Too true, hahaha, I don't even live in the UK anymore, we Scots always complain about the weather....but then we complain about everything....hahaha.All you guys do is complain about the weather!

400, nice choice for that space, are you cooling the light in anyway?ended up with a 400W HPS
and when that photo was taken I was growing Mint and Coriander under it. I now have 2 seedlings in there though

well overall it cost me about $50-60 to make this tent minus the light, all the hydro shops in my area sell tents of similar sizes for about $230+ and mine is pretty damn stable the way I've built it, the only reason the plastic is hanging is because it isn't going to be sealed until the fan goes in, and I could build it to an exact size. Not only that but when mine is completely taped up (and yes I've done this and tested it) it's 100% light proof, not a single light leak. No premade grow tent I've seen has been light proof in fact most of them shine heaps of light straight out. I've also built it without any glue so it's also very easy to disassemble should I need to move or hide it.
So ye if you wanna waste an extra $150+ be my guest.
Going and buying a fan for it today actually.

You should check out plastic lumber instead of PVC. It's made out of recycled plastic, no maintainance, and alot sturdier than piping. PVC blows and it's bad for the environment.

Can't believe the people who are worried about PVC being bad for the environment. If you were worried about the environment you wouldn't be growing indoors using a ton of extra electricity.
It isn't a bad idea but I looked it up and while it'd be a lot sturdier it'd also be a lot more pricey.

Just saw a pic of your diy grow tent. Holy hell, that is quite possibly the ugliest thing I've EVER seen! LOL! Brother you could of made a sweet little cabinet for 20-30 bucks out of wood! I did. I even had the dude up at home depot cut the plywood down to the exact sizes I wanted so all I had to do was take them home and screw them together. I'm not knockin your project, I love diy projects. Going diy saved me at least $300 on my set up, EASY.

I know how easy it is to make out of wood. For my purposes though a wooden cabinet isn't really helpful.
It isn't the prettiest tent but it does a damn good job and is easy to disassemble (will fit into a postal tube quite easily). And like I've said a million times the reason it looks like arse is coz I haven't sealed the plastic yet.
The only way wood would be helpful would be to build a wooden frame without any glue and wrap it in plastic, and really whats the point?
Not only that, but if I ever need to, I can remove sections to rearrange the height/width of it for certain areas. Can a wooden cabinet do that? And being lined with plastic means its waterproof and easy to clean, not to mention the reflectivity of the panda plastic is very high. Not as good as mylar but still pretty good. I can also cut holes and replace them as needed and all I need is a pair of scissors and/or some al tape.
It's all good I'm happy, I know my plants don't care what it looks like.
My veg cabinet is a small wooden cabinet but for my flowering I needed something a bit more versatile for my circumstances.

I was actually looking into making a pvc set up when I first thought of the idea. It is more versatile than a wooden cabinet. Like you said, you can easily add and remove shelves or make it bigger if need be. All you need is some pipe, cutters, glue and some fittings. The only reason I decided to go with wood is because I couldn't locate a material I thought was durable and reflective for a reasonable cost. If you know where to find something like that let me know! I would use it for future grow for sure!
