DIY Grow Tent - Cutting all cost corners.

I just went and priced my PVC, which came to about 30 dollars for the 40ft and the 4 3 way connectors. You plan to use trash bags for the covering? I suppose that is one way to do it. Hrm. Would you have to use multiple layers, or would one cut trashbag work? And are you planning mylar, or emergency blankets or something for the inside? AHH! The suspense is killing me!

This is cost cutting so i doubt the mylar there mate, I was also wondering about the trash bags letting light through and it may be a little too easy to rip and whatever?

trash bags will be doubled up, when I put them on I won't be unfolding them and will be layering them. They will only go on the bottom and I'm not concerned too much about light coming through since the reflective surface used on the rest of the tent will be covering the floor also, which will light proof it.

Since there's no point me delaying with the details, the plan is to use the insulated hot/cold bags you find at supermarkets such as this

Cut open, the inside layer is a highly reflective material and is quite thick and sturdy. Dunno about the US but these bags are cheap as over here and once opened cover a fair amount of space.

that's awesome... these guys are worried about pvc and the environment and your next move is to take reuseable grocery bags and chop them up, never to be used at all... i seriously love it

not to stop you, because i really don't want to, but emergency blankets from the camping section work pretty well... but please... by all means... use the bags... + rep for this one

emergency blankets are good, but where I am the bags are cheaper. By all means if you want the emergency blankets go for it! that said, the grow tents I've seen at my local hydro shops are covered in the same material as these reusable bags.

oh trust me dude, I'm not knocking you at all. I truly love it... especially the pseudo-irony of it since they were all save the butterflies and stuff a few posts before

actually wish i had thought of the bags because they insulate better I would think.... but I got the blankets for super cheap so I can't complain

I used those sun reflectors on my very first grow (The ones for car windshields) and they raised my temps about 15 degrees over what they were when I took them out and used reflective duct tape. Just as a heads up! I ended up buying some foam poster board that was $2.30 per sheet, With one side white and the other a darker color. It actually worked out very well for me! I can't wait to see pictures!

thats actually a pretty sweet idea with the poster board, i couldn't for the life of me think of a flat white hard surface that'd be cheap.... I'm starting to reconsider.

Yah dude. It works really well, actually. And the good thing is - With some duct tape, it is sturdy as well! I am gonna cut it for intake/exhaust fans and anything else. I'll throw some pics up here in a minute if you don't mind.

We don't seem to get so many car window sun reflectors in the shops here....not so much bloody sun, that's the problem!!!
