Please refer to post #7 .. I didn't feel it was necessary to make a new thread. thanks :D

Hey guys. Currently my AK47 plants are growing bushier then all hell. They're about 2 feet tall and have branches coming from every direction. The bottom branches are finally growing up the sides of the plants toward the light and look great.

But, my main goal for my first time grow is to get one huge ass cola!!

I havn't topped, fimmed, or pruned anything from this plant, and I was wondering how to achieve one big ass cola at the top...or will my plant do this by itself?

Maybe some pictures will help.

You have to cut all the branches off. Its is kind of a waste now cuz you have big side branches. Usually you just keep cutting them off when they are small. Maybe you could make clones.

Couldnt I just mark where the top of my plant is, and start cutting all smaller branches off as the thing grows vertically?

You have to cut all the branches off. The energy of the plant will then go all to the main cola and you have lollipoped your plant. Its best cus you will get a fatty top nug and no small popcorn nuggs

Thanks Edux, thanks Hank. +rep both of u.

also, Edux, I don't think im going to do this because of how well its veg growth is going i dont want to ruin anything. But, those side branches that are growing out and up toward the top of my plant, will those turn into nice big colas??

will the top of my plant still be a nice big cola regardless of the side branches?

Basically I want big fat nugs not a bunch of popcorn nugs like you explained.

Thanks for the help guys

I did some reading, and I came to the conclusion I dont want to lollipop my plant, but rather receive a very large top cola!

How do I achieve this?

Cut off the bottom one third of the plant then. You should have just been cutting the branchs as they grew and not let them bet all big cuz that is a waste of energy but oh well. You can still cut them and get one fatty top cola. Leave any parts that look like they will combine into the main top.

i heard lolipopping is not good for plants. other opinion is fan leafs collect the most energy and food for buds producing fat nugs. i have a northern lights and ak-47 6 weeks into flower and i did not prune/lollipop them at all. my buddy really wants me to like he does but in comparison with my plants i have way fatter nugs. the northern lights has about 4/5 main colas with about 1/2ounce nugs on each. i did clip a COPULE fan leafs to open up the middle but suppercropping it allowed me to open up the middle of the plant exposing small nugs to more light. The ak-47 has 2 main colas with even bigger nugs, it is in a hydro bucket unlike the soil grown northern's. I use fox farm nutrients and gorw with 800w hps during flowering. Sooooo i've heard this go both ways...... ive heard it causes stress soooo can we get some more opinions im eager to learn and hear both sides for fat main colas..

This was my first time ever growing pot, in the pictures above!

I now understand the pruning / lollipop method much more.

In my opinion, on indoor plants only, you should prune the bottom branches that arent receiving as much light, around day 14, to ensure the top buds take up all that energy.

Lollipop is only good for a really tight SoG. little to no veg time.

Huh??

Yeah,I wouldn't lolli pop a plant outdoors.Sunlight is bright enough to penetrate to the bottom of the plant.

its not like you have to cut all the bottom 1/3 of the plant . just cut the puny branches that dont look like they will produce much

dont do it it could have a main cola and all those and have more bud it looks great
my plants have to main colas and more smaller colas under

Yea just leave it be but it is a good idea to chop spindly growth at the very bottom of the plant(you know those branches that grow you a couple bongloads =\ ) it will let the plant put its energy into branches that actually have buds on them but I only do that to branches that are so low and hidden that they are drooping and only a couple inches long.
