To all newbies...Read before you post stupid questions!!

I am a newbie myself so please dont get offended by me saying this. Please stop asking stupid questions. I make sure to read all the old threads on here before asking a question that has already been answered 4 or 5 times. There is more than enough info and pics to get through any problem. I feel like some of you newbies just arent as comitted as you should be. As if the weed is going to just grow itself and tell you what it wants. Well actually it does but you dont understand what its saying to you. I am sure that all the experienced growers on here get sick of reading the same old newbie problem threads (ex: PROBLEM NEWBIE NEEDS HELP!!!!). Jesus Just read a little bit! :wall::cuss::finger:

I am not really that mad but seriously some of you make the rest of us newbies look bad. Put in a little effort!

as a "veteran" member (and i hardly consider myself even close to that) i must applaude you for your efforts... it does get old seeing the same questions over and over...

BUT....

the truth is, it wont stop... its just the way it works.. there are a good portion of people who do read and research, look and find their answers, and are willing to spend the time doing so.. there is also, however, an equal portion of people who dont care to spend anytime trying to answer their own question, and instead will post the same question that may have been asked 3 times in the same forum right before they asked...

a lot of time i will skip repeat questions, especially if the person asking doesnt seem to be the person that would look to find the answer.. if its obvious they dont care, why should i??

Whats funny about it is they are the ones with the most problems. Because they do not research it they dont fully know what it is that they are even talking about.

I personally find reading through most long posts completely useless or next to it... trying to find that needle in a haystack... so many inane post that contain no information, or people bitching or saying how much they like each others plant... and I also find the search functionality on this site sucks!

although i agree that asking questions is the best way to learn... i also think that the person learning should be willing to put some book time in to reading and learning what they can on their own as well...

when you go to school the teacher gives you homework.. why?? so that the responsibility of whether or not you learn as a student is up to you.. they are there as a support system... to help guide you and help you learn.. but their sole purpose isnt to learn for you or to do the work for you.. its to help you...

there are plenty of "new" growers who dont want to learn or care to learn.. they want you to tell them what to do and how to do it.. basically they want you to be the teacher and the student, and they just set back, do minimal work, and reap the benefits...

i have my own grow.. i dont need to have another grow through someone hundreds of miles away... thats where the grower needs to take the initiative of learning some things on their own by researching.. and if they still dont know... to ask... there may not always be someone there to hold their hand through things... and its growers like that, the ones that it is apparent they want you to grow their shit for them, that i hate answering questions for...

i really dont mind helping out and answering questions... i have an entire thread in newbie central that is a grow guide for new growers that i offer to answer anything anyone asks in.. i can almost say, with a level of certainty, that anything anyone needs to know is in there.. im sure i've covered most everything that can be covered at one time or another in it.. but there are a good amount of people who, instead of spending some time reading through it to see if there the answer they need in it, will just start a new thread and ask...

granted, not all the time do i want to skim through 40 pages to find what i am looking for.. but i do.... because im responsible for my grow.. and if i still cant find what i need, then i ask... but its rare.. with a little time and patience its not hard to find any answer that one may have a question to, with a little looking and searching..

There are a lot of kids (some in their 30s) who come here and have never had to search for anything in their lives, they've just asked someone to hand it to them. So it isn't surprising.

Some of the questions asked on RIU, really do suck. But unless the person is completely retarded I'll do my best to help them. My favorite question...... "Is this a pot plant?"

I was one who asked a ton of questions, and sometimes, i still do. I have also used, and still use, the power of the internet and books to reaqd up on something new before I try. However, I will not only read, but also ask advice from MARIJUANA GROWING FORUMS to get opinions and reviews and try to learn from other people's trial and error. What is to say that everything you read on the internet is correct. *sarcasm*

Everyone starts off new at some point. If you aren't willing to help, then don't. But don't begrudge other people asking for it.

If it wasn't for many people on this site willing to take some time and patience to teach a very new "green" girl how to grow, I would of never been as successful as I am today. I owe most of my knowlege to the people on this site willing and kind enough to answer quite a number of my "stupid questions".

Most of the time, all I needed was some assurance and support.

Even research doesn't make somebody "fully know" when it comes to this subject.

Look for the information that you need, and then see if you can feasibly put it in to application. If you can't; find another method that fits in to your system. Fill your head with knowlege and try what makes sense to you, and learn through experience.

It's a LEARNING experience every time. It helps, because along with the plethora of great info on this site, there is a lot of bad info too. So it's up to you to scrutinize.

I certainly can understand the frustration some members feel seeing the same questions over and over again. But...as it has been said numerous times, this is a marijuana growing forum. If you don't want to answer the question, then don't. You dont even have to read the post. No one makes you look at General Growing or the newbie section. If it is truly that unappealing why not just post the FAQ's and guides, and do away w/ the option to post altogether. Like DoIt and Sunny said above, Sometimes people need a second opinion, or just plain encouragment. It's not like our parents said "OK. You can read now. Heres what you need to know." threw down a book and said C-Ya. If you can't "deal" w/ people asking questions, there are plenty of boards on this site.

I agree that there are some really lame questions, but those exist on every cannabis site I have been to, the thing that annoys me is looking at the gen grow area and seeing 3-4 posts asking the same question, in nearly the same way...I like to help and even encourage new growers because this is what some cool people did when I was just researching and I feel its part of what we do.

I, for one, get tired of hearing people bitch about newbies asking questions. That's how people learn - by asking questions. For all of you "read the forum" people, let me ask you - have you honestly needed an answer and tried to search for it on the forum? I have - I've also been frustrated to the point of tears from searching through almost endless posts, with either no answer at all (because everyone in the thread is telling the OP to go "read") or 20 different, conflicting opinions - yes, even on the most basic of facts (watering, for example).

Yeah - there does come the occasional question that is completely lazy (eg: I'm gonna grow marijuana - what do I do next?) - but most newbs have a more specific question, and again - it isn't so easy to be specific when you don't know what the hell you're doing!

Personally, I am more than willing to help a new grower out if I know the answer - irregardless if it's been asked before. (Hasn't everything?) If I don't like the question, simple - I skip it and move on. You complainers can do the same thing, rather than waste your time, and theirs, posting that you don't want to help them.

Peace.:peace:

When I decided I was going to start growing, I sat down and read the how to's before I ever bought a single piece of equipment. Dont get me wrong I appreciate all growers old and new. What I meant was, You get alot of people who buy a growing starter kit with everything you need to start but have no idea what to do with it. It would be like buying a swimming pool then asking someone else to teach you how to swim. Dont you think you should research it first. Maybe I just dont get it because I dont have that mentality. I always want to try and do it myself that way I can feel better that it was me all the way. Not some one else telling me what to do through the internet. I also feel like I get a better understanding of whats going on if I research it a little. I have no problems if someone is asking a question that is particular to there situation. But there is always some one who wants Us, the people who do sit down and do research to carry them to the finish line. If I offended anybody Sorry that wasnt the point. I just wanted to see some of the newbies put a little effort in to growing instead of just posting every thought that pops into there head (got seeds now what?, got dirt now what?, got nutes now what?, got a light now what?) For gods sake people!!

Sometimes if you have a plant problem it's hard to know what you are looking for just in the pictures in the stickies. I dunno how many times I've had my laptop right up to my plants with the def chart and couldn't eliminate the problem below 2-3 deficiencies. Or maybe it's nute burn! Maybe I am just overwatering? ARGH!!! :wall:

When I was on a fish forum there was a mod who had a whole article about the nitrogen cycle as their sig so she wouldn't have to expain it 204923 times. If the answer is OBVIOUSLY in a sticky they didn't read you could just copy + paste the whole article and be like READ NEWBIE :finger:

Sometimes even us newbies get frustrated with other newbies.
