I grew watermelons hydro once and they're picky. I had better results dirt... They drink a TON of water when they fruit. They get big long vines........ hope you know...

Oh yeah! My buddy is growing indoor dirt pumpkins. Maybe with a little research it could be worth while... They drink ALOT of water... lol think I said that.

I had a lot of trouble with blossom drop and they where spindly and weak vines with small leafs (should of been bigger) I didn't have a TDS tester so couldn't tell you exact ppm but it was right around 500 ppm and ph bounced around alot from 6 to 7 when it started to make fruits.. seems like there where only a couple "perfect" flowers (self pollinating) but mostly boy or girl flowers and you have to use a paint brush and or shake the shit out of them to pollinate. I didn't try to hard as I was busy with other gardens. good luck

I plan on pollinating them myself, and I'll probably end up using soil instead just because of the water. I've read that people will stick PVC pipes in the ground routed to the root zone when they feed. That could also be a good technique for outdoor bud. I might have to try it.

My grandparents live in california and thats how thier irrigation system works. Be pretty easy... Maybe a garden hose with holes and the end capped. If its to an outdoor grow though you can follow the piping to your crop, just a thought...
