Help... hash oil smells bad like vinegar.

I've rinsed the same bud and made hash oil with it a few times to see how much useful oil I can get from some bud.

The first time was a beautifully pure brown oil. Second time was a little darker but still excellent.

This third time the solution was very dark green... now that it's fully dried it's still very sticky and very black/dark green. The part that worries me is it smells very acrid and sour, very much like strong vinegar. Is this just a crapload of chlorophyl breaking down? I'd like to smoke it but I'm half worried about the results. I always use the Iso-method rather than butane.

Any input would be appreciated, especially from you Fdd2blk... you tend to be the hash king.

If you're making iso hash oil, every time the iso hits the herb it seeps/breaks down more and more toxins/impurities like chlorophyll and the rest of the nasties.

I don't rinse mine through more than once, sometimes twice (Both at 30 second max runs), but the quality definitely takes a hit on the second run.

Like dude before me said, I wouldn't smoke it.

Hope this helps some.

Well then, considering the herb was sitting there still soaked from the first and second iso-run for almost 2 weeks, I guess it's time to dump it.

Yeah lol.

A good tip is, that if the iso is golden or yellow it's pure and good product. If the iso is green or a dark green it's no good, because the green is the chlorophyll and impurities. So basically the lighter in color the iso, the better the product. A 30 second wash is pretty much all you need really, and you just need enough iso to soak the herb in. As soon as the iso hits the herb, start counting down your 30 seconds, when you're about at 15-10 seconds start straining through a metal strainer, then again through #2 or #4 coffee filters (You will need to switch them out when they get clogged). The 30 seconds has worked well for me, no matter the volume of herb.

Hope this helps you out with your future iso runs :bigjoint:.

I've always done my iso runs for only about 30-60 seconds and gotten brown or amber. Like I said, I just hoped I could get more out of it that was decent :-(. I guess next time if I want to try for a 3rd run i'll have to do it at the time, rather than 2 weeks later.

Yeah most definitely, you can get a paper bag and put the soaked herb in there and let it dry out, takes a couple days max.

Why would I do that?
If you're gonna run through the herb more than once, the paper bag will dry it out so it's not still in iso, if you do choose to decide not to run it through all in one go.

If you're just gonna run everything in one go, disregard that.
