T5 are great for clones, they deliver as much as a 400 h.i.d. but your buds can almoast touch the plant. all withy little heat. Great color cpectrum. 2 blues and 1 red is the way to go I hear.

i would recommend a 400w hid, it doesn't put off tooo much heat at all my first plant i flowered with t5 floros and like everyone said i was dissapointed.. you would probably have to spend the same amount of money on floros and fixtures to get what you would from atleast a 400 watter so its up to you:peace::joint::joint:

i switched from a 400hps light to a t5 4 bulb light and the difference was it took longer for the plant to mature, but it produced more buds. it took only took 11 weeks before harvesting.it also provided me with lower electricity bill.

I am going to be doing a flowering test of 600 hps vs t5 4 ft 8 bulb new wave. same strain, same nutes.

VV has grown some hellacious looking buds with t5's- https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/33421-my-current-set-up-journal.html
I've been looking for a decent T5 grow journal - Thanks.

I've been considerin the switch since summer is coming and im in FL. I bet i spend just as much on my electricity bill with the AC cooled room as I do the 400w MH (that sounded confusing).

no prob. I would say go for it. as long as you get 1/2 the bulbs @ 3000k and the other half 6500k, you can use them for veg and flower with good results. the 4 ft 8 bulb version is around 430 watts with 40k lumens, basically the same as 400 hid. but since they are cooler you can put them closer, and the light is more spread out. not to mention run the a/c unit much less.

Pyramid power. If I had the bracket mounts I would mount my T5HO arrays 90 degrees to make a ^ of light over the plants, and space them apart to allow for my 400w HPS to shine down as well, for an ultimate light canopy.

That would be a sweet setup indeed my friend. You should get on getting those bracket mounts and making it happen haha :blsmoke:

I made the switch from 3 600watt mh to all t-5s in veg, my grow was amazing from the first week all the way through veg. I will never go back to mh.Only use 6500 in veg.
If you want to flower with them you can, use the warm reds. You won't get tall buds, but the trichs will cover the buds more than ever.

How far are you guys keeping your t5ho from the plants? Newbe here and 2/3 inchs burns my young vegging plants. I am now trying 6 inchs?

I use T5's for sprouts and initial veg. There are standard and high output bulbs. The HOs get warmer and will burn anything that actually contacts them. I usually have them about 3 inches away. You can get them closer, but I have not seen too much advantage and there is a risk your plants will grow up into them.

I keep them any where from 6-10 inches away. They are warm. But even 10 inches away my veggers grow lush and fast.

T5's will work great from Mother/Clone status all the way into the first 4 weeks of bloom.
The last 4 weeks of bud growth are critical. That's when all the bud growth happens. The bud start's to develop during weeks 3 and 4.
But weeks 5,6,7 and 8, The bud will need a bit more strength of light to make the buds stack on the weight.
The last 4 weeks I would use at least a 400 watt bulb and maybe some Co2.

I am using a t5ho 324w for my first stab at an indoor grow. I used the grow bulbs for 21 days of veg at 24 hrs, now I have switched to bloom bulbs and am gradually shortening the cycle. From what I understand all floros lose intensity as distance from the light increases, so to be safe I added another 250 w of side lighting. Heat is also a concern for me as I am growing in a closet. If it helps at all the t5 fixture alone vegged the plants very well. They only started stretching after I switched the bulbs and shortened the light cycle. I think side lighting might prove to be key when flowering with the t5. (fyi in the pics i know the little tube to the right looks like its positioned low but I plan on lowering the plant shelf as they flower/stretch so it will soon be just right ) And up till the taller ones really took off I had the t5s about 6 inches or so from the plants. I also ruined round 1 by putting the babies too close but I later realized it was because my containers were so small that the water was drying up way too quickly and DRY plants cant be near the light. I put round 2 right up to the light when they were about 2 inches tall and they took off fine. Just mind the heat and keep them moist or get them in bigger pots to control the moisture. I really dont think there is such thing as too close, even with the t5ho variety which i use.
