i would suggest a 600-1000w hps light to get all your fems nice and bountiful, either of those lights have excellent penetration

i grow only with cfl`s. If you look in my profile to some pics you'll see that the CFL's are not bad AT ALL!!!
Your plants look great trombon! How many CFLs do you have in total? Did you consider adding some around the lower regions of the plant in order to equally light the plant?

I've just heard that HPS lights are ideal for flowering. I'm not really in a situation where I'm not able to have the best so, I'd like to have the best. :)

I've been told that CFLs are more than sufficient but for optimal growth during flowering that HPS lights are the way to go.

600-1000w ?!?! are you serious?? I had no idea that I would need that much. lol I've got a 50w HPS in there now and I was considering earlier on if it would of been sufficient. Guess not.

So I have to get atleast 600w HPS? I was thinking about like 150-250w. Will that not be enough?

I have CFL's all over that closet. I have:
12 CFL (1600 lumens each) - on top
9 CFL (1600 lumens each) - around the uper part of the plants
5 CFL (1760 lumens each) - around middle bottom part
+ 3 grow fluorescent lights

26 CFL total:
8 = blue spectrum
18 = red spectrum

i would suggest a 250 watt HPS. I use a 400 watt in a 4x4x8 space with 10 3-4 foot pants. its a bit crowded and i may thin it out to 8. i do the same thing as you, i put stuff under the pots to make the tops all the same height. being that you already have a 50 watt you could get a couple of 100 watt HPS lights at home depot or lowes and use those with your 50 watt. but a 250 HPS with a nice reflector and remote ballast would be ideal. i got my 400 from HTG supply for 150 delivered. nice grow man, keep up the good work.

See that's just like TONS of lights and wires. I'd like to avoid too much cluster if I could ya know? I know a HPS and reflector is going to take up a lot of room but hopefully it will be worth it.

Yea, I have seen the HPS bulbs at Home Depot but what about ballast and reflector?

I'm actually now thinking that I'm going to grow my current plants, which are bagseed anyways, with just the current CFL setup I have and a 50w HPS that I already have too. I will change out a few of the CFLs to make sure they have the right type of light.

I've got some seeds from a buddy of mine that I plan on using for my next grow so this first grow is more for a learning experience and what not.

Suggestions are always appreciated!! Thanks!

of course it is a lot easier to have only a 400w HPS. I have this lights because they were free. I hooked all of them up to 3 different cables, thats it. but i still have tone of wires and shit. For my flowering room I wanna buy a HPS tho and combine it with few of this CFL's that I have. The rest of the CFL's I wanna put them in the veg room.
The "room" that Im thinkin will be 5x3

The dimensions for the cabinet that I'm growing in are:

1.5ft x 3ft x 4ft

I'm just going to have to try this round with just the CFLs and the HPS and we'll all see how it turns out. :)

I'm thinking they are fungus gnats. I'm going to try a few on the methods to get rid of them and see what my results are. Thanks for the link NewGrow60sToker!

Had the same thing and someone recommended that I buy a melon and put pieces around to lure them away from the plants and then throw the melon away. Well I didnt do anything about the flies and then my roomate bought a melon - it worked ai guess, they are in the kitchen now :( but nowhere near the plants.

havent seen that fly but that is a kick ass camera.
10.1 megapixels from Circuit City before they went under for only like $170. It's actually my girlfriends that I got her for Christmas.

Also, I've heard about using slices of raw potatoes and putting them on top of the soil and that the fungus gnat larvae are attracted to it and it helps get them out of the soil. And also putting sane on the top layer of soil because it's so fine that they can't get through it to lay eggs.

All this reading I've done and I still haven't done anything to try and get rid of them. I've done 2-3 sprays with neem oil on them because I found something that I thought was a spider mite when my plants were tiny tiny and I don't want w/e it was to come back.

I went out of town for the weekend and signed up my girlfriend the job of babysitter for my plants. Well, to make short story, she didn't water them until the day I was coming home. lol got to love the trustworthy ones.

I got home and was told that my babies looked a little rough but she wasn't sure why. I thought maybe she'd watered them with the nutes instead of the distilled water. I wasn't sure so I gave all of them lots of water. I came back a few hours later and what do you know? They all perked right back up!

Even the leaves that were a little 'crispy' in certain places came back to life.

I just want to make sure that I'm reading the situation right. I was gone from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon. It also probably was around 20% humidity and 87 degrees too since I wasn't there to mess with the fans and refil the humidifier. I thought that these all too could have added to the plants little problems. Any advice?

Added Mylar FINALLY!

And here's the slow poke that I was originally asking about in this thread:

Also, I finally got a small fan that I could mount in the corner of cabinet:

Here's my best plant. It's super bushy and only 4in. tall:

I haven't been really keeping up with the days. I am switching over to 12/12 tonight though. I'm excited.

It sounds like you'll have the right CFLs to do the trick.

I'm planning on using some down the sides of the inside of the cabinet so that the lower portions of the plants can get more light. Hopefully they'll like it.

This grow is basically a learning experience for me. These plants are from bagseed and are for trial and error.

My next grow is also bagseed but the weed that was in the bag was absolutely brilliant. I hope I can grow something half as good. :)

Good luck man!
