150W Hps Socket ?

Hi all,

I would consider myself moderately experienced in this field, yet I cannot figure this one out.

Does a 150W hps, medium base, require a 5KV start rated socket? I know it cant be screwed into a regular light socket without a ballast, etc etc, so thinking past that...

Needing to mount a 150 in the hood with my 250, and there are many types of sockets available, but I didnt know if any ol socket, obviously porcelain, would work?

Thanks!

I bought a 150w security light and it came with a 4kv socket
Thats good information, yet I am still amiss as to whether or not you could use any porcelain socket, or does it have to be 4kv-5kv?

Surely if it does, the operating it without that rated socket would cause issues, though it works because I have used it this way in the past, whether or not its correct, is my question now.

Thanks!

They need a socket rated for high voltage, I don't know what the minimum is but the ones I have are 5kv sockets. They're like $3-$5max if you shop around.
