Side-By-Side Cloning: Gel vs Liquid, Cubes vs Pellets

I took a total of 16 clones from my mother. eight have liquid hormone and eight have gel. eight are in pellets and eight are in cubes. four of each.

the products are Root Tech gel and Vita Grow liquid.

then we have these pellets and these cubes

the loose ones in the tray are two weeks old with still no roots

heres the mother plant before and after

i only have two successful clones out of about four different batches that i've done. hopefully i find the best way with what i have. any questions or comments welcome

hey man, great thread. i have been experamenting with clones too, i say experamenting because ive never done it and i have really limmited space, i have taken 6 clones in rockwool, 2 in jiffy pellets, and just yesterday i made a bubble cloner and threw 4 in it, today, only one isnt wilted and fallen over. its just my first atempt at all of them and i used olivias gel. out of the first 6, 3 showed at least some roots, and then died after a week in my system, the 2 i put in pellets i waited 2 weeks then took em apart, no roots, so i recut and tried again. the ones i put in the bubble cloner last night didnt make it one day... i thought bubble cloners were the best...?

i did too. check my thread. hashlover posted a lot of great info on the last two pages about how to make a diy $20 bubbler. are you monitoring ur temps? ive come to realize if theyre wilting within the first few days it probly because theyre either too small and weak or the temps are too high and they're cooking.

Hey, SayWord That Mom sure looks good, nice indica look to it. You have a nice pic of it there. OK lets see what happens. GlassFreak, do you have a dome or cover over your cuttings? If not that could be your problem. Need to keep the humidity higher than normal. I need to take some cuttings soon myself. I would have by now but due to an electrical problem at my house I've had to put my attention there. At least that was what the wife wanted. You don't really need a light in the bathroom or kitchen do you?? And the fact that we could'nt use the microwave because it was on the circut that my lights were on now. And we had only one 15amp line for most of the house. Got it fixed today along with a new 20amp line that only goes to the closet where my babies live and another 20 to the room that has the closet. That's my veg and clone area. Now I can run all the lights I want with no problem. But anyway, I'm going to try to take some cuttings tomorrow night. I'll let you know how they do. Here's a pic of one of the cuttings I took on Dec. 27. Put it into flower on Jan, 13 to see if it is male or female. Still has not showed me yet. It was 4 1/2 in tall on 1-11, It has not been topped or pinched at all.

There was a post on here about a ghetto bubbler. Bunch of people were making fun of this guy. He took a rubbermaid bin and filled it with water. Went and bought a yoga mat from k mart. cut the mat to fit in the tub and then layed a pattern out for his clones. Took a drill bit and made a hole everywhere he choose to put a clone for the stem to fit, then cut a slice next to the hole so he could pull the clone out once roots had taken. Then he got a couple of fish type air pumps and some fish tank stones and put them in the water under the mat. Placing the stones so all 4 corners had great bubbling action. This guy claims 100% but I get about 95 lol. I just number each spot i made and write down what clone went in what number. then transplant to dirt. I still use gel and powder but dont know if you need to i do. I then put the clone in low light for a couple of days after i put in dirt and water. out of 30 clones i loose 2-3 but it took the guess work out of cloning for me. I make small clones, big clones it doesnt seem to matter. Right in the dirt. no fertalizers no trimming the leaves, no yellowing. Just my 2 cents there are way more pro ways to do it but i can knock out 30 clones in 7-10 days like this

landofzion, ya thats the kind hash lover uses and i will be making soon hopefully. so the dynamics of it are that the pumps make the water splash off the stones in there and the splash gets the plants wet? this is the last try before i go to that level.

pepe, ya, i did the clones in a cup thing too. out of all the ones i did, probly about 20 total, i got one successful rooted one. and it just barely got a little root and i put it in soil and it lived. i had them off to the side of veg and i also did them on my windowsill so they got dark

dunno if its my post your talking about, it kinda seems like it :)

i never claimed 100% success, im the death of clones, i really suck at cloning. i just tried as many different ways as i can.

So dave the newbie, you going to change your name to famous dave now? lol I am not sure that thats the same article i read but it is exactly what I am talking about. I appreciate guys like you taking the time to take pics of that stuff because it made cloning/cuttings a breeze for me. After i cut the map i layed out my design and drilled a hole for the stem instead of just cutting, it seems like that foam wants to heal and thats why i drilled it. Dont shoot down the success rate this works great.
And Sayword, Check his first link out. You dont have to worry about it being perfect. Just make sure there are lots of bubbles. it doesnt matter if the stem is in the water or out of the water. I prefer in, just like i was planting in water. Like you said with the one you got to root in the glass of water. All it takes is one root. Most will have a ton and some will just have a few little white nubs. Plant them and they dont miss a beat.

wow between daves bubbler and hashlovers bubbler, im really inspired to go make one of these. doesnt seem too hard

When I put mine in the bubbler mat I still do all the things i read about. cut the clone with 2-3 nodes above the cut, made my cut at a 45 angle i lightly skin the stem down to the fresh layer under the skin about a inch up or so. I have used rootone powder and olivias gel. i wanted to see if one is better than the other and they both seem to work just fine. Alot of people say whats the use because it just gets washed off but in my head anyway just getting that hormone on there is worth it. besides a can of rootone is like 6 bucks and it lasts forever.

its not too late to test powder if u have some! the clones are only 2 or 3 days in.

ur bubbler stories are very inspiring.

word man .... is it to late to test a powder too ... lol ;)
You do that and I'll run the bubbler. Didn't get to it last night but hope to have a short day today and get it done tonight. I'll take pics along the way to post when it's up and running. SayWord, those pics are of the same plant just a week apart. What happens in the bubbler is you keep the stems above the waterline (very important) and the bubbles coming to the surface of the water pop and spray very fine droplets all over the place. You can see it when it is on. They in turn keep the stems wet but let them get maximum oxygen. That's what makes it work.

i meant you , you got the same conditions and clones ... it wouldnt be much of a comparison if i did it.
lol my cloner is the laziest way to clone... its goin slower now with the colder weather

You meant me? If so I don't use clone/rotting stuff after my last two runs. I Used Olivia's on my second to last batch and was just not happy with it though they did start to root. So I tried a secret mix, starting with distilled water on the last one and was much happier. 6 of 6 rooted And the one in the pics (they're the same plant just pics a week apart with the pics) was cut from the plant on Dec. 27. By Jan. 8 all were ready to plant.
