Can my plant have too much light?

When I say too much light, I don't mean light too often. I mean... Say you're on an 18/6 light schedule, which I am. Is it possible for the plant to get too much light during that 18 hours? To put it in simpler terms, can the light be too bright? I'm considering going out and buy more lights for my plants. I have a lot right now, but if the equation really is more light=faster growth, and you can't have too much light during the 18 hours, then I'm going to go out and buy as many lights as my wallet will allow.

Yes, plants can get too much light regarding total photons received over a span of say.....18 hours. Once a plant's Light Saturation Point is reached chlorophyll (the lifeblood of a plant) is destroyed and carbo production is severely compromised. See my sig link below for more info.

That's fine, IF the plant is acclimated to the light. In fact, the best combination of light you can give a plant is sunlight supplementing the photoperiod with artificial. I use a 20/4 for veg. You need to start your sunlight exposure when the germinating plant just begins to push the soil - move it outdoors, sunrise to sunset, and of course germinate directly in the soil, not a wet paper towel. Do not expose it to alot of wind until the stem gets a little woody, or, use a small stake like a shishkabob skewer securing the "trunk" to the skewer.

I don't think you can give a plant too much light using CFL's. Best buy a light meter that registers to 10K f.c. and remove all guessing.

Bottom line - keep the leaves green.

You can score a 1kw light on craigslist for 200$, if you want new, even decent shit, like 350$.
