Cheap T5 Lights at Lowes!!

Yes it's true. I was picking up some stuff to build my latest aero unit and found some T5 fixtures and bulbs in the lighting section and the best part of it was they are half the price of what I've found online for the same thing. They don't come with reflectors though. I paid about $39 for the 46" fixture (2 bulb) and about $11 for two bulbs. I've never seen a T5 before; they are skinny little dudes. The bulbs are 3500 Kelvin.

Yeah, Pirate, I keep changing it to Freewheeling Franklin but one of the mods keeps changing it back.

has anyone ever tried flowering with the t-5's? I heard since you can keep the lights almost to about a half-inch away from the plants it will produce nice buds. Oh and i'm talking about if you were to flower from clone with no vegg time at all. I'm sure you can still get a decent yield if doing SOG and you'd be saving a lot of power as well.

Anyone ever try this?

There are T5's and HO-T5's (high output)
Yeah I'm wondering what his guy got as I have yet to see T5-HO ballsats or fixtures, let alone bulbs, at Lowes. I suspect he got 28w T5 which are only slightly better than the T8 or T12 bulbs. Which is to say they aren't that good for pot.

HO t5s are quite a bit more expensive. They dont carry them at lowes. I believe they go all the way up to 200w if Im not mistaken.

46.5"-28w = T5
46.5"-54w = T5HO

T5HO are excellent for scrog and sog and side lighting. They are nearly as afficient as metal halide and when used with a quality reflector have decent penetration. If overdriven, they can be used for full size plants but must be changed out every harvest. They also burn at maximum intensity when the surface is at over 100•F. Overcooling them will cut the output 30%. :)

T5 are good for clones and seedlings. ;(

T-12's arent good for growing pot ?

Ive never used a T-8 so i cant speak on that but i do use 40 watt T-12's @ 6500k & they work great for growing weed, they work just as well as the metal Halide i was running previously for my veg room & much better than cfl's,,i get very strong growth that yeilds thick lush plants using T-12's for veg.

My T-12's in action.

Well put. (SO much *bunk* on the shallow end of the pool, here) But would also like to add that vegging is the easy stage, and the plants work well with almost any decent quality light ( T5, CFLs, floro tubes - T8s T12s, MH, etc)
Flowering is where 'men' are made. (and the $$$$, if your you are on the commercial side)

(side note. Been following the ductmasters thread too; with great interest, just too scared to post :) just dumb questions )
