Hey Everyone...

I'm down in Miami doing the vacation thing for a few days, soakin' up some warm tropical sun. I'll be back on the farm tomorrow afternoon and will post updated pics as soon as possible. I always love going out of town for a few days, then returning to see how much my babies have grown! Tomorrow will be Day 10 of the flowering cycle, and hopefully some buds will have started to develop. I'm picking up a new digital camera next week allowing me to post crisp, high-quality photos. The pics I have posted thus far have been OK given that they were taken with a stupid Moto Razr. However, I really think these ladies need to be captured with a real camera. Be on the lookout for the new photos tomorrow, but keep in mind they will be shot with the Razr. The new camera shots will be posted towards the end of next week, right about the time that serious bud growth kicks in :-D

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have posted such nice, supportive comments here on my grow journal. We all love growing magnificent, plump buds, but it's even better when the process is shared and enjoyed by everyone here. It's sorta like having your own personal cheering section :-D

I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving (even if you're not from the USA)!

Hey Guys...

Well, I'm on Day 14 of the flowering cycle and my babies are progressing nicely. Buds are forming on schedule, and the smell has really kicked in. Most of the plants are around 4ft tall and I'm hoping they don't get much taller. Next week i'll be adding Purple Maxx to the feeding schedule and I'm hoping that boosts resin and trichome production. I haven't used that stuff before so I've got my fingers crossed. I may actually just use it on a few of them so in case things don't go well at least the damage will be contained. We'll see though. I may say "Fuck It" and just dose the whole crew.

Im using purple maxx too..I fed it once with just plain water, and then the guy at the hydro store said to just foliar feed with it. and to spray them right before they start their dark cycle.

My nugs look all kinds of frosty...how are you going to apply it?

After doing a bunch of research, including scouring the forums here at RIU, speaking with experienced users, consulting with my hydro shop guy, and emailing the folks who actually made the product, I've decided on the following treatment plan.

At the beginning of Week 3 of my flowering cycle (next week), all my plants will be getting a thorough flush including the application of Clearex to breakdown any residual nutrient salts that have built up in the soil. At their next feeding four days later, I will mix up a nutrient solution that is 33% of the current strength along with the recommended dose of Purple Maxx (1/2tsp per gallon of water). Provided that my plants respond well and don't wither and die, I will continue dosing them with Purple Maxx and the reduced nutrient solution once a week for the next four weeks - until week 6 of the flowering cycle. Beginning week 5 of the flowering cycle, I will add Gravity to the mix at a strength of 1/2tsp per gallon of water for 3 consecutive waterings. At week 6, I will stop using all my nutrients and feed them only RO water with SuperThrive and Hygrozyme. At the beginning of week 8, I will again do a thorough flush using RO water and Clearex, and will continue feeding them plain RO water until harvest.

My hope is that this plan will maximize the effects of the nutrients and bloom boosters, and clear the plants of any residual nutrients by harvest time. I'm definitely not a fan of leaving excess nutes in the buds because it has such a big effect on flavor and the overall smoking experience.

that's a pretty good plan..I wanna see how watering with purple maxx turn out..Ive only foliar fed with it once a week since week 3. Im also using gravity as well. I havent given my plants any nutes and watered with just gravity the recommended dose 1tsp per gal.

Did you use bushmaster?

Thanks for the Purple Maxx info and comparison pics, Smokey! The one that got the Purple Maxx looks a lot more robust than the other one. You can definitely tell that it's got better trichome development. Tomorrow, my crop will get their first shot of Purple Maxx. So, I've got my hopes up and my fingers crossed!

Here are the latest photo updates. As you can see, the buds are developing nicely. Though my shitty camera phone doesn't show it so well, thichome development has begun as well, with crystals forming on the buds and smaller leaves. It'll be interesting to see what they look like a week after their first shot of Purple Max...

Im curious to see how it will look as well..You're feeding it through the medium right? I sprayed mine. You should pic one plant and spary it, and feed the rest through the medium and compare results..It could be a science project!!

Hey Bro... How ya doin? I do a full flush using Clearex and 3gal of water per plant immediately prior to the flip. That way, I'm going into the flowering cycle with a basically clean slate. You probably don't need to go that far, but I'm fanatical like that :-D You would probably be fine with just a plain RO water flush just before starting the flowering cycle. I do suggest doing a more thorough, heavy flush, including the use of a salt-leaching solution during the last 2 weeks before harvest. This will make sure all the nasty salts and unused nutes are not left in your buds.

Regarding the use of BigBloom, cut it back to 1TBSP per gallon of water at every watering when you go into the flowering cycle. Use 1/4tsp of Open Sesame along with 2tsp of Tiger Bloom per gallon of water at EVERY OTHER WATERING for the first two full weeks of flowering. Again, always include 1TBSP of Big Bloom per gal. even on the days you are not feeding with the other nutes. The BigBloom will help your plants avoid nutrient lockup and should really be thought of as a supplement rather than a nutrient.

Umm, you should not give your plants nutes for the first 3 weeks of their lives if you are growing in soil. The soil will provide the young plants with all the sustenance they need for the first few weeks.

yeah cause i grew an outdoor plant last summer and it was doin ok with the soil that i had in the pot that i got just from the ground..but when i transplanted it to a bigger pot,i used miracle grow soil that u can get from lowes or wallys world and it did grow a whole lot more then what it was growin..so thats the same soil i planted my seedlings in,and it sais on the bag feeds up to 3 months..so do i really need nuts?:?
