Gunman Kills 3 at Biker Bar in California, Then Dies in Shootout
At least six others were wounded at the bar in eastern Orange County, Calif. The authorities identified the gunman as a retired police sergeant.

More bad news from one of the states with particularly lax gun laws.

Details about the now dead shooter are forthcoming. AP says it's a racially motivated shooting. Bad on him but really it's just an excuse for the inexcusable.

It's the guns. Lax gun laws means more guns available to bad people and more chances of this happening. This isn't very complicated.

The democrats winning elections federally and in the states is the only solution, even if imperfect. Fortunately, with Trump, their social policies, terrorism and general stupidity the democrats look poised to start a streak as the GOP self-destructs. The base not only elects unelectable idiots it also elects incompetent party executives, many states republican organizations are broke, the more radical, the more broke. Trump is vacuuming up the small doner money with his grifts and many of the big doners are wary of fascism and populism. It looks like a perfect storm to me with Trump around their necks like a millstone and abortion, guns and democracy as the issues. I've been disappointed before, but it looks bad for the GOP in 24 with the trials going on during the primaries and during the election too.

Meanwhile Joe appears to be doing a stellar job, considering Kevin's house, the economy is almost doing too well with plenty of hardhat, manufacturing and service jobs. Foreign policy has been an unqualified success, with both Russia and China feeling the pain of being a pain in Joe's ass. America has never had an many enthusiastic allies since WW2 and Ukraine is the most enthusiastic of them all. Joe is also ringing China with allies who are nervous about Chinese aggression and Asian trade is shifting to Asian tiger allies. I still believe Joe is one of the great ones and if he has a democratic congress at his back with an effective majority he would do much more.

First, enough minds must change enough to make gun control enough of an issue. Then and only then can we change the laws of this land to include rational gun laws. I'm pretty sure gun nuts are tired of seeing these headlines, maybe more than those who support stronger gun regulations. Witness how few people who oppose stronger gun regulations appear when this thread bumps up to the top. Better moderators have something to do with it too, but in the past, when this thread bumped to to the top, it drew gun nut trolls like flies to shit.

So, maybe things are changing, if just a little.

  • There are multiple shooting scenes, authorities said, including a restaurant and bowling alley in Lewiston.
  • Maine State Police are asking residents to shelter in place as the active shooter situation is ongoing.
  • Lewiston is about 36 miles north of Portland and is the state’s second-largest city.

Even though Lewiston is the second largest city in Maine, it's still small. He went to local places and likely killed locals. I'd guess someone recognized him during the act or in the security videos.

I reacted the same at first to whak's post but decided to wait and see. Now that information has appeared regarding the victims, it's clear that victims who have been identified thus far are not Somali. Nor was the shooter. According to the AP, Lewiston Police said the shooting took place on Wednesday evening at Schemengees Bar and Grille and at Sparetime Recreation, a bowling alley about 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) away. A number of parents and children were at Sparetime as part of a children’s bowling league.

I don't know why anybody would make a post like @Kerowacked 's. It's up to him to explain himself. Or not.
