My first indoor, Afghan & AK48

Hey this is my first indoor crop after a few years of growing outside.

Soil is sandy loam topsoil, mixed with horse manure, perlite, chicken manure, and bio-tone with mycorrihzae and other bacteria. Germed three of each the afghans cracked in less than 12 hours, 1 AK took about 24h the other 2 took about 36h to crack. They were put under softwhite cfls for the first 10 or so days of their lives which caused some stretch and kinda slow growth. For the last 5 days they have been under the 400w MH and seem to be liking it a lot more.

This pic is of all 6 Afghans in teh front AKs in the back.

One of the afghans.

One of the AK48s.

If I have the money I'm planning on ordering a 400w HPS, but if I don't have enough for that I was planning on getting a 3000k MH bulb for the 400w light im using. At some point though im going to get a 1000w HPS with one of the dual arc bulbs and use it all the way through, should have it for my next grow I hope.

OK I'm here for my weekly update, for about 4 days this week temps were around 60* and they didn't seem to grow much at all, I blocked off the section of the building with 6mil plastic 2 days ago and now the temps are up in the mid 70s and growth has resumed.

The afghan in the second photo has a little bit of nute burn, but it doesn't seem too bad so I'm just letting it grow.

OK so heres the 5 week update, AK48s were gettin a bit tall and branchy so I went ahead and bent them over to get more branching. Group shot before, couple pics of the AK48's, and a shot after the LST.

I cut the light back to 19/5 for tomarrow, I plan on cutting it back 1 hour everyday until I go into 12/12 next tuesday. :hump:

Looking very nice. What type of light will you be using for flowering? I prefer HPS for flowering, the plants really seem to respond to that. So thats 5 weeks of vegging huh? I can tell your plants are going to get really big, they really take off during flowering. Might even have to tie down some buds. Hehe

Is this your first grow?

Puff...Puff...Passes it to you

I ordered a 3000k MH bulb for flowering and am going to use 4 42w soft white white CFLs as side lighting, so they should get plenty of warm light with the added bonus of some UV light. I thought they would have been bigger thats why I didn't flower at 4 weeks, they will be six weeks old when I begin flowering next week and hopefully will be about a foot tall, atm they are only about 9-10inches tall. I guess with using the MH and them being mostly indica they just didn't get tall real fast or maybe I'm just a shitty grower.

This is my first serious indoor, I grew at my old apartment once but didn't have good lights so the plants didn't turn out great. After that I moved out where I could do outdoor and have been doing that for the last couple years.

Here is a shot I just took of the bent plants, I decided about an hours after I took the other pics that it would be better if I bent them back in towards the pots so this is what they now look like. In the second pic you can see all the branches really shooting up, that is why I love bending them over so much.

They are coming out great. If you can't afford the HPS lights, you can get 150W HPS with Ballast for 20.00

Check it out http://www.e-conolight.com/Product/EProductDetail.asp?ProductFamilyID=7&FGNumber=E-MT6H151G

I know 150W is probably not enough, but at 20.00 you can't go wrong, and you also have MH to back it up some. And your CFL's

But yes, your babies are looking really good. Are they femanized seeds?

Nah they arn't fems but I noticed last night that the AK48 #2 and #3 have female preflowers so I have atleast 2 girls. Believe it or not I predicted that they would be female and Afghan #3 is also one I predicted to be female, and predicted the other 3 to be male we will see if I'm right in another week or two.

Nirvanas Afghan is nearly pure Indica so it should be a heavy stone not much head to it, more of a couch lock type of high.

Kratose I thought about those but the 3000k MH has a little less red and a little more blue with added UV light, so I'm thinking it will do nearly as good a job on getting a good yeild and in theory the extra UV light should provide more potency. Plus my 3 gal pots and the 60$ bulb just drained me so I can't even afford one of the 20$ HPS lights.

cool.. hey, what kind of high does the afghan give u? never smoked it... ak48 is such a great indoor strain.. rock on!
The afgan gives a very very strong high, When you smoke it, you tend to just like float off. I remember I would come home from work, fill a bowl up, put on some TV, I would be half way through the bowl, just stopped in my track so stoned I would be just staring at the TV. It is great. Very fluffy, A quarter fills up a baggie np. The smell is different, Almost chemical smell, But not a bad chemical, it such a nice smell, so tasty smelling. Also, whats awesome about this bud, is the taste, it taste just about how it smells. Very good strong taste, its different though. Don't be putt off bye the word chemical, it just has such a smell and taste its hard to describe. Some of the best bud I smoked. I got it from a breeder, and he grew the best afgani bud. Very expensive, 400 a Oz.
