Is that Thrips?

Hi everyone!

Is that thrips??? I treated few times with pyrethrin but can't get rid of them... I start to wonder in which stage they are and... if it's actually thrips, if not, what's this? IF yes, does pyrethrin really take care of them?

It's so tiny, had to take a 25-50x and try to take some good pictures.. Sorry if it's not 100% clear.

If I zoom in slightly they don’t have the correct shape to them.

Yours look more like springtails. Did you find them in your medium? Jumpy little fuckers like a spring?

I'm using coco... I wonder where they come from it... I wasn't able to find anything, except on the sticky thing...
Are those harmful? I'll google it but well... first time I notice this... I had thrips for sure, so I treated with pyrethrin but now those, I wasn't sure they were thrips...

I am not able to see them with naked eye in coco or plants... too small... Have to use the sticky then I see a spot and then, I'm able to look with a "zoom" so I can't say if they are jumping or not.

definitely springtails! I've been able to compare pictures on the internet vs what I've been able to see with my eyes...

I'm glad it's not thrips! =) I never heard of springtails before that!

Can we water (coco coir) with pyrethrin to kill them? I know i'll need a lot but I watered an hour ago and holy siht, zillions of them in the coco... I water the pot and it goes down a bucket, saw multiples of them and I added some pyrethrin to see the result, it wasn't moving anymore... I was wondering if we can water using pyrethrin (safer's end all) to flush the medium and hope for the best? I guess it's fine since we can spray the entire plant with it... Any experience with that?

Use spinosad for thrips. not sure whats in the pic you show but its not a thrip.

Pyrethrin might do it but that’s a systemic I think and not a contact killer afaik.

I personally use a neem drench with dish soap (couple of drops) or a spinosad drench whenever I have any and they don’t stay long after that lol.

But remember they aren’t harmful to plants just unsightly.

Which neem product do you use? I'll try using pyrethrin on one and see how it goes...

Just a generic U.K. brand called NEEM REPEL. It’s already got a surfactant in it but I use additional with the dish soap.

I haven’t suffered any this time (thankfully) as they make my skin crawl lol.

however though the mrs has been growing some New Zealand Flax from seed on the window sill since last summer and her pots are infested with them. (Wondering if the ones I get sometimes have gone to her lol)

it was a really really bad idea to drench them with pyrethrin... They are pointing down like they can get water... I'm not sure what to do next :\

Flush with 100% water like X time the volume of the pot?

That sucks. Springtails are beneficial insects. So you really didn't need to do anything. They eat decaying matter and turn it back into food for plants.

yeah... kinda a stupid move... lol but now have to bring back the ladies.. they are drooping like hell... kinda crazy.. I flushed one plant to see how it goes with RO water, like 4x what I usually water with...

You're using coco so make sure you feed them after flushing.

so... flush with 4x then another water with nutes ? right after it or? i measured the output and ppm was ~280-300

I don't really know. I don't use coco. I just know you're supposed to give it nutes every time when using it. I'm not sure if you're supposed to be flushing with a weak nutrient solution or not. If @Renfro is around he could probably help.
