Psychoactive hash caps - I went into the rabbit hole for 48 hours. I wasn't sure I was coming back

I've been making highly psychoactive hash capsules out of coconut oil, hash, and soy lecithin for a couple months now. My most recent batch I changed a couple things, and the results were simply too much to bear. The recipe is simple. 5g decarbed hash, 2.5tsp coconut oil, and .5tsp soy lecithin. Stir. Cover. Bake @ 220F for 20 minutes. Freeze. Reheat to 220F covered for 20 minutes. Freeze again. Toss on a coffee warmer. Stir. Begin capping your gel caps. Store in the freezer. Grab a few anytime you want a kick in the pants. My last recipe I did just as I usually do except I nearly doubled the soy lecithin. I didn't have time to cap it so I just ate a tablespoon which is about 14 doses. It was a horrid awful mistake. The terror that my mind went through for the first 24 hours surpassed my most intense acid trip memories of my teenage years. I couldn't smoke. I couldn't hardly eat. I couldn't function. I kept forgetting things. I would walk into a room and forget why I was there. The nausea was overwhelming due to the spins that would not stop. I couldn't even develop an appetite. I had to force feed myself. Then waves of terror washed over me as I realized how deep into the rabbit hole I had gone and realizing I had no idea when it would be over. Day 2. I woke up slightly better, but still wasted. Same issues. Walk into a room. Don't know why I'm there. Memories I had forgotten about from 25 years ago washed over my like living nightmares while awake. Holy motherfucker I will never do such a thing again in my life. The horror. The horror. And today I feel better on day 3. Fuck me running with a stick sideways that was the most horrendous experience I've had in 20 years. Respect yo edibles. I will cap everything from now on and take modest doses.

I’ve had that happen from dab pens, but it only sucked for an hour or so, they called it “greening out” how long and what temperature do you decarb for? I’ve read so many conflicting temperatures and times, exposed to air or sealed?

you left out whippets to really up the game a bit!!!
Yes!!! Hippie Crack!

I misread the Protabs Sativa box the first time I took them in 2 horrific ways:
1. I thought they were sublingual - they're not....they ARE very fast dissolving and that awful taste stays for hours. :spew:
2. I ASSUMED they were 10mg ea. and that 10 would be 100mg of THC. Turns out they're 25mg each....250mg total. :wall:
Had a great time - just felt really dumb about mis-dosing so badly and grateful that THC is as safe as it is.

I called my Wife and told her what happened in case I wandered off......she told me to make sure I saved some for her.:bigjoint:

The person that taught me suggested 40 minutes at 240F. I follow his recommendation with great success every time. I have a very old gas oven. When the thermostat signals the oven to heat up sometimes the temperature can flash 20-30 degrees above the temperature the oven is set at. When you're decarbing at 240F those flash points can reach 270F. That's hot enough to vape off terpenes and some cannabanoids. The foil covering is simply a safety measure to protect your precious product from these flash points so you don't vape off your psychoactive material and terpenes during the warm up cycles. Terpene loaded hash burps when the capsules break in your stomach are the shiznit :) The fella that taught me uses a small countertop electric oven that doesn't generate flash points which is why he doesn't have to cover his. I cover mine while decarbing and while cooking. I desperately need a new oven. Don't judge me :)

These days I like to do about a quarter pound of hash decarbing at one time. Toss it in a glass dish with gasketed lid inside of the freezer for use as needed. I really hate the process of decarbing because it ties me to the kitchen area for the duration and it feels like a ball and chain. 40 minutes to me is like an eternity. Dam you ADD and manic bi-polar :)

If it works for you then I can’t argue, I’ve read as short as 20 minutes and as long as 2 hours
20 minutes is not long enough to decarb hash. 2 hours is quite excessive. I can't imagine why such a lengthy time would be necessary. Sometimes I see people suggest longer times at lower temperatures. I guess as long as the job gets done the job gets done, but who the hell wants to baby sit an oven for 2 friggin hours? Not this fucking guy :)

LOL, I ate a couple of pot brownies when I was five back in the 70's and still remember the trip. Honestly I have a hard time eating edibles in general these days because of that experience. I start getting all sweaty and salivating just tasting edibles. Once I get past that initial reaction however it's still enjoyable to me.

It depends on your temps. You might try the old water method, where you boil your hash along with the oil in water, then once it's done let the oil separate to the surface of the water, cool in the freezer and take the hardened layer of THC infused coconut oil off the top of the now cold water. It's nice because the water keeps the temp constant at 212F (boiling) and also filters out the water soluble particulates from your bubble hash for a cleaner end product.

I decarb in my pressure cooker. Put the weed in a sealed mason jar, fill cooker half way with water and pressure cook for an hour. Works great!

How do you separate the THC from the plant material?
That's just for decarbing, similar to how you would do it in the oven. I have also successfully done an infusion this way. I decarb the weed dry in the jar first and then pull it out and pour enough MCT oil in the jar to cover the herb, close the jar back up and put in back in the pressure cooker for another hour.

The beauty of the water method is that you decarb and extract the THC to the oil in one shot, while also purging the unusable plant material. I'm not sure how that process would work in the pressure cooker, because it gets the temps higher than normal boiling.

My pressure cooker peaks at 220F

Edit: just realized you were talking about hash. I'm talking about using flower. I've never cooked with concentrates

Was this by mistake or were you just like, what the hell, what’s the worst that can happen?
