Dry ice ?!?

Greetings!!

My hubby and I are starting our MK ULTRA grow room, and are thinking....

Instead of getting a CO2 tank...

What about dry ice?
It's far cheaper here and raises less suspicions.. Our Landlords don't need to see us rolling the tank in and out of our house.

Has anyone tried this?
The chemistry/physics seems like it would work...
But we're still unsure.

Any advice would be great.
Our seedlings are ready to leave the incubating station...

yes dry ice sublimating will produce co2, because it is pure co2 however much weight you put in your room will be however many grams released into atmosphere at that temp & pressure

Dry Ice seems like a great idea, unfortunately its hard to come by where i live...

Dry Ice is super cheap where I live...
approx 5$ for 10lbs...

I guess all we have left to do is figure out the formula to get the right sublimation....

i thought about it too it should work and it would keep ur temps down mist definately, the problem is how long would it last, and how much co2 until it's toxic too ur plants

do it i say in the 3rd week of veg, put in about a lbs of dry ice a wk, that should work

hey, I use dry ice. I use an old minnow bucket with a lid ( hole in top and four holes around bottom) and a fan in the room. 10lbs melts in about 24-36 hours.

Your best bet is ask your dry ice distributor if you can buy in bulk...say like 50 or 100# and they hold on to it for you and they mark off each time you visit, how much you take per trip.

Your dry ice will melt fast. It is better for them to hold on to it, that way you don't waste money.

Just tell them you work with a rock & roll band and you use it for the fog machine and tell them you don't play enough and have no where to store that much ice but you need the price break because your working for a bunch of poor artist's. <--have sad eye's when telling this story. It worked for me and my distributor!

no problem yet. Plants have been healthy throughout my first grow. I break 10lb. into quarter chunks. place more as each batch melts. i also use sugar and bread yeast in a 2 liter bottle in between dry ice. don't want to make habit of going to dry ice dist every day.

P.S. we are growing in a closet... measurements to follow...


Were are building a timed drip system, with timed lights to replacate the 'path of sunlight'.. our incubation house is already existing. I propagate house plants for a hobby.

I can hold our seedlings another 3-6 weeks... depending on all the chem shi*.
And, of course, how cold it gets here, and if our heaters can keep up.

I know we should have started building sooner, but we never thought our jobs would tank....

my operation is 400 watts. your will not melt as fast.

the dry ice -109.3°F or -78.5°C in your freezer will melt fast unless unless you have a major industrial freezer.

There's no way you could reach toxic levels of co2 using dry ice, actually it doesn't really have that much effect, it doesn't reach high enough levels. It's better than nothing imo, but research proves unless your melting a shitload, there won't be enough co2 released. There's some info on it somewhere around here.

Dry ice has been used as a curing agent, put the weed in a can with dry ice, before you start the sweating process.

Best bet is to get a tank, it's way cheaper to fill, and you can easily conceal a tank in a laundry bag. It's 20 bucks to refill and should last you at least 4 weeks.

They'll never ask you what it's for at the gas place, and if they do, it's for a kegerator, or fountain drink machine.

For real, way to think outta the box, I saw they sold dry ice at walmart, a couple years ago, and thought the same thing you did, it was hard as hell to get the info I needed, so I borrowed a digital ppm reader, and found little difference, there is a lot of info on it now that's searchable, needless to say, I eventually upgraded to a ppm2a controller with fuzzy logic, instead of a bleed system.

Wow! 25 bucks for a 20 oz tank refill??? It's only 5 bucks at my paintball shop.

20 pound tanks usually cost 80 bucks and refills are 20-40 depending on your location.

You are getting ripped off at the paintball store, tell them to suck your balls. They only pay 1.25 for 20oz of CO2, that means they are changing you 23.75 just to hook it up to the filling station... I'd find another place to fill your paintball tank, that's for sure. You could buy the valves and do it yourself with a larger tank, shit, 4 refills on a 20oz will cost you the same as a 20 pound tank, could refill 20 oz 16 times...
