flowering under a 600 watt HPS bulb with ballast dimmed down to 400 watts

Yes you can run a 400 watt bulb.
Yes you can dim your 600 watt bulb to 400.
It's up to you, either choice works.

Changing the bulb or changing the setting on your ballast is not gonna make or break your grow.

A 4x4 tent would be a good option for your light. To me a 3x3 space is a waste of 600 watts.

By the pics your issue isn't lighting.

You haven't mentioned your feeds and feed schedule. And what about your humidity?

no, the maximum, anyone who say different like the other fellow should maybe learn to calculate pars before giving people retarded advice
3x3 with a 600 will give you 96 par which is the min you want
Says who? Decades of real world growing all over the world would prove otherwise.

ahh yes invoking a nonrefutable source out of the aether....
cool...

but here in the real world, where facts and things matter,
600w max sq footage is 3x3
1kw max sq footage is 4x4

you can squeeze the lux for a 5x5 out of a double ended 1k hps but just barely and with significant heat increases.

these arent arbitrary feelings,
these a facts based on simple math.

a 600 watt will do a 4x4 better more room

Im all up for a bit of math, (where was yours when you said a 4" fan would take care of a 600 in a 3x3?)
Real world is results proven a million times over across time and space, not what you read was required on the internet.
State your source from a recognised study and I might convince myself that 20 years of personally growing with HPS was all just a dream.

Your facts don't match what's happening in real life.

:wall:

Why would i use a 3x3 space when a 4x4 will give me more??

Are you saying you can get the same amount of smoke out of a 3x3 that you can a 4x4??

Par is just "part" of the equation.

How about calculating square footage before giving retarded advice.

God what I did in a 4x4 would be to do one 15 gal plant in the middle and net it and let it veg until flower under prob a 600 watt hps or just get 4 qbs and you’ll be good

so you want me to provide very esy to check industry studies, on well accepted facts, but i should take your uncontrolled test results at face value which you just say exist because people have grown under 600 watts in 5x5 areas...

that is so retarded i cant accept you made that claim in good faith

lol imagine believing... unironically mind you, that more canopy equals more weight...

Idk man I think 1000 watts hps would be cover a 5x5 bc 600 your getting 24 watts a square foot have fun trimming those airy buds

no its not bud the farther the plant is from the light the less light it gets aka intensity

now here what u just said makes u look like a idiot 1ft away from the plant max you'll fry your plants good luck two to three feet is the perfect spot for a 4x4 area and I know it will fry a plant because my gdp fucking fried when I added hps to my led was closer than the led should not have done that good thing I caught I really would have ruined my harvest ask anyone else this and youll get a very nice answer "the quality of light is the same at 1ft and 6 ft from the source it" @Renfro please explain to him

This thread is funny. The OP posted an identical thread a week earlier. Glad to see others corroborating my assertion in that other thread that the lamp ideally should match ballast output.

That said the info the manufacturer said about pulling 600w from the wall even when dimmed is straight up wrong. Plug in a killawatt and see. I would stay away from that manufacturer in the future.

Yeah that was a weird claim to make from the manufacturer. For sure the bulb should match the ballast for max life span and performance, they used to tell you this when they first brought out the digi dim ballasts but that was when it was the big name brands and then the cheap ones flooded the market and seemed to forget to mention it these days.

but if you want to deescalate this fine with me.
you guys are still way off base tho
Yes lets just agree to disagree, lifes too short to spend time arguing on the internet. :bigjoint:

Hey, just a thought, you may look at metal halide bulbs if you want to run the 600 watt setting.

So a 600 watt metal halide bulb with the 600 watt setting, it will put out less lumens than a HPS making it perhaps ideal. Metal halide also makes the best quality flower IMO. Just something to consider, make sure your ballast supports metal halide but most of the digitals do.
hey, not doubting, but just curious where you got this from. never heard of metal halides being better for flower.
