Noob here: Correct way to keep count of days?

It is a very noob question but... whens the correct time to start counting how many days and weeks into the grow you are? Is it after the first nodes appear!? Is it when the seedling breaks the soil? Just curious to keep better track of my feeding and lighting

^ That

But I just count flower as start of 12/12 for ease of rotation.

Plants transition for about a week or two before they start to really "flower". If you count from the start of 12/12 you will always go over the seed's predicted flower time.

So if the breeder's description is flower 8-9 weeks, they mean from the start of real flower, or 1-2 weeks into 12/12. If you count from the start of 12/12 that 8-9 weeks now becomes 10-11 weeks total.

I count nothing! Haven't for years and years! Decades really..

They get flipped when at the right size to stretch in bloom to fit under my lights height limits. Sometimes they get too tall and I simply super crop them to fit....No Problems

In bloom, I simply watch for them to be "done." You learn what that is , as you go along.... They are finished. When they are finished...

I don't even bother counting veg days, Just Flowering .I go with when the plant timer get put onto 12/12 off ,7 days later ,they will be 1 week into Flower. With My feed Sued, only days I write down ,are day 14 ,big bud for 14 days, then day 35,for pk 13/14,for 7 days.other than that, I go on how the plants look after the pk spike ,just canna a/b.looking at them I can see when they are near enough done, that's when I feed water for has long has they need it ,till there done.Round about 7/10 days.I know growers that count from when they see Flowers rather than the timer, but each to there own.

Same here, I harvest when they’re done doesn’t matter the days. I feed when they’re hungry doesn’t matter the days. People make things to complicated

I think that you need to keep track of time more so with Hydroponics growing ,I have friends that just make a soil up at the very start of flowering ,but during veg feed teas, and everything the plants need during flowering is in that soil, I'm starting to come round to that way of growing now too, now the soils there using don't stink. I use canna have done for years and its simple to use ,but I like to keep track on time during Flowering ,just so I know when to add the extras ,lets face it not many of the strains finish on time any how.

one after the other.....

Flowering is counted at the switch to 12/12. It doesn't make sense otherwise. They are finished flowering when they have finished flowering...how many days that is, is a distraction.

I like to wait till the top throws stamen at the top. About a week after flip but could be longer.
Plants that have not matured enough from seed will take longer as, they are forced to figure out there sex.
This is rocket science and should only be discussed and debated by professionals and a paper published with the results.
A simple explanation of their conclusion will be available soon somewhere online but, will not be linked to this page.

No need to count at all if you're not using it for something. I count flowering days from the flip, it's the most consistent in that the first day of (showing) flowering can vary from strain to strain, environmental differences, etc. Only reason I count is for breeding (e.g. selecting the shortest running phenos when using a cross to reduce flowering time) and maintaining a perpetual schedule. Otherwise I wouldn't count and go like @Dr. Who, they're ready to flower or harvest when they're ready, that doesn't change just because I count the flowering days for reference ;)
