Confused when to harvest sativa dominant strain

i am growing a sativa dominant bagseed strain which is now 60 days into flowering and suprisingly the plant looks like ready for harvest...90% of its pistils have turned from white to red and more than half the pistils have shriveld up..even the top colas of the branch have now little foxtailing growth which i guess is a sign for harvest i guess..i dont have a microscope to see the trich...but i m stuck in a dilemna ....how can a sativa dominant plant look ready for harvest so early..should i harvest it or let it out a week more ?

i don't think it's close to ready, i think its expressing a genetic color trait. doesn't look like its started to swell yet, i'd say you'r no more than half way done. not a bad lookin plant
Oh thanks a lot..i was hoping for this answer ...cuz its sativa dominant ...but yeah most of its fan leaves have yellowed by now ..is it normal ...? Like 60% is yellowed and witherd away ?

depends on how you feed them, if you switch to bloom nutes too early they'll yellow up pretty quick. not much to do about it at this point. you still have your "swell" to go. usually a couple of weeks before they're ready, they'll put on a burst of new growth, throw some new white pistils, and your buds will usually fatten up quit a bit. this is a last ditch effort they put out in an effort to get pollinated before they die. it doesn't look to me like that's happened yet, so i'd guess you still have around 3 weeks, maybe more. you might want to bump up the N just a little, and i do mean a little, too much can fuck up flowering. actually the amount in a good dose of cal-mag plus would probably be about right

Hey thank u so much..that was informative.. i guess i fed it a bitore nutes than whats required hence its yellowing so fast....i will flush it not completely but partially...and see how it goes from there .....
So a good 2 weeks more to go.....i was about to harvest within a week thinking the swelling is done...thanks for the info on that..i shall wait it out :) peace

That plant is just getting started but it is pretty deficient. Does it have pink pistols by chance?

I would run some water through to wash out whatever salt buildup is stressing the leaves and then ad a light concentration of a balanced complete Grow ratio nute with micro nutrients and let her recover.

I burned this sativa hybrid during transition but leached the pots around week 4 and fed a half dose of a base grow nute and she turned right around.

This is 12.5 weeks total flowering time just before harvest. She has been steadily growing and stacking calyx’ almost 8 more weeks. Sativas can grow more the whole time. They make new clear trichs as they go and they all keep maturing. Tough to know when they are finished sometimes.

You have a long time to go. I’d say 4-6 plus

If I didn’t have a scope , I’d look for 2 things
Pistils white & standing straight up (not ready) if the calyx are swelled at the node .

Looks like a Haze
Very few pistils are white and stsnding straight up ..like 20% .. at the nodes the calyx is a bit swollen but not on the top of the buds ....thanks for the info :)

Not the best , but doing that with a phone n finger , but you’ll get the idea .
There is a lot of pistils still looking for pollen
As long as they look like they do, your packin’ weight.
Like Michigan grower said , sitivas will keep going and going , I had one that I said fuck this thing after 12 weeks and made oil out of it . It probably could have gone another 12 weeks .

Next time , I’d buy some known genetics
If your into sitiva, I’m happy with C99 &
I have a sitiva heavy pheno of green crack which is also very good. Both are fast finishers . But there’s 100s to pick from.

If the plant is a wild sativa it may grow much looser airierbuds than the professionally bred plant I showed.

Are there any mature ones to look at to compare?

Other than that I can see it was overfed and stand by my recommendation to leach and re feed light grow nutes.

Order a 60x loupe overnight. Look at trichomes when it comes. If you see brown ones pull it.
